This past weekend was my Papi’s birthday, which means I got to spend a little extra time with my family despite opening my store on Saturday. Friday night we went out to eat with my family to begin the weekend. On Saturday (his actual birthday), we ate pizza and my mom’s homemade chocolate cake. My boyfriend got to come up for the weekend to celebrate and the six of us played “Pick Two” and “Cards Against Humanity.” It was a simple weekend, but it was more than enjoyable.
It’s weekends like this where I try to stay off my phone as much as possible. I don’t even think about social media because I want to appreciate the time I have with my family. For my Papi’s birthday, I bought him a “What I Love About Dad” book from Papyrus and shaving cream from The Art of Shaving. My dad is a simple man and doesn’t like elaborate gifts. He prefers gift cards, and little gifts that aren’t too expensive. I always appreciated his simplicity and laid-back personality.
Today, I encourage you guys to spend a little time with your family even if it means calling up your mom and dad and talking to them on the phone for an hour; or, surprise them with a visit. Always make time for your parents. Time with them is precious and we should remember to never take that for granted.
