BB81716_The Story Behind the Name of my Blog

When I tell friends or coworkers I have a blog, the first thing they ask is what the name of my blog is.

Blissfully Brunette, I reply.

From their faces, I can tell they weren’t expecting me to say that. Then there are the inevitable questions as to how I decided on the name of my blog.

If I’m being perfectly honest, I wasn’t sure how to answer this question. Of course, I could spit out a few words as to why I think it’s important to follow your bliss in life, and that being blissful essentially boils down to happiness, and my blog was a way for me to express my love for life altogether.

The next question, or some variation would come up. “So, you never write anything negative on your blog?” This lead to a bit of silence on my end, and my mind ran endlessly attempting to find an answer to this.

After this happened a few times, I began thinking and reflecting on the name of my blog. I ran through a ton of questions about whether or not my blog content (and my personality altogether) reflected my blog name and blog message.

Although you would think this is a positive thing, it actually lead me to doubt myself, my blog and my love for blogging altogether.

“Am I hypocrite if I tweet something that’s not 100 percent happy?”

“If I have a negative comment about a product, should I not write about it at all?”

There were so many questions and comments that ran through my head for several days simply because a conversation came up about my blog.

It took a lot of reflection and time for me to realize that my self-doubt was unnecessary because regardless of the name of my blog and the message of my blog, I have the power to post whatever I feel people will relate to, enjoy, learn from, etc. That can range from health tips, fashion and beauty inspiration, stories that people can relate to, or learn something from my past. Whether that post comes off positive, negative, or a combination of both is completely up to the person reading the post.

I needed to remind myself that my readers play a huge role in the blogging process. One reader can take a “negative” post, and see that there was a positive twist on it. The same can be said for positive, uplifting and blissful posts.

So, why did I name my blog Blissfully Brunette?

1| I want to help people find the bliss in everyday life

Yes, I know it’s sounds cliche, but it’s true. I want my readers to know that there are little things you can love about each and every day. Whether you read a post about my favorite beauty products, or you’re reading a post on to simplify your life—there are moments of bliss we should all appreciate.

2| I’m a blissful person

There are days where I’m not feeling my 100 percent “blissful” self, but for the most part, I exude happiness and love that quality about myself. I want to share that with my readers, and hope that regardless of my feelings that day, you will see there is a blissful person beneath it all.

3| I’ll bring a positive light to your day

Even though we have bad days, I strive to bring content that makes you see the bliss in your life. Whether I’m telling you a story with a lesson, a post where I share what I’m happy about each month, or a post on being your happiest and healthiest self—I want you to leave my blog feeling positive, blissful and at ease with the life you’re currently living. I try to lace positivity in each post.

I hope this post helped you learned a little more about me, my blog and what I want to bring to my readers here at Blissfully Brunette. Now, I want to learn more about your blog, the story behind the name of your blog, and what messages you want to share with your readers—so make sure to leave a comment below explaining your story behind your blog!

Always interesting how a person chooses the name of their blog. Bring some bliss to my day is always appreciated.

  • Ivanna

These are all great reasons. Ultimately if people dig deep enough into reading your blog they will understand. I had to explain the name of mine as well (Petite Heartbeat) but it was something that I put thought into and I can explain if someone asks. Great post.

    • Thank you so much, Ivanna! I would love to know more about how you came up with that name, too!

  • It took me ages to come up with a name for my blog and I still often doubt if I made the right choice if I ever post something that’s not directly linked to my name but ultimately you have to remember: it’s your blog and you do with it what you want!

    • I couldn’t agree more! It’s so important you choose a name that you love and that represents what content you share! Sometimes you might not be directly linked with your name, but that’s perfectly okay!

  • Paige Allison

I get snorts at my blog’s name too (An Uncomplicated Life Blog) with people saying, “Uncomplicated! Yeah, right! Are you going to tell me how???” You just have to let it roll off you. The people who ask you about negative things are probably negative people, just like the people who comment on my blog’s name love complicated drama in their lives. Keep doing your thing and living your truth girl!

    • Thank you so much for your comment, Paige! I appreciate you sharing some insights from your blog name as well! But you couldn’t be more honest–sometimes there are negative comments from negative people and you have to let that go!

  • I like your blogs name. Mine is Tigress’ Wonderful Wardrobes and some days I like it and other days I hate it. Tigress is the nickname my sweetie gave me when we first got together and wonderful wardrobes is exactly what my blog is about. How to shop and have your own wonderful wardrobe. I’ve thought of changing it but I dk.

    • Thank you so much for your comment! If you do decide to change, that’s perfectly okay. I have considered this myself but I realized that I truly love the name of my blog and I love the message behind it, too!

  • Taylor Smith

I’m 🙂 I sometimes feel that I have to be completely ambitious all the time (for the most part I really am!!) but people sometimes scoff at that too. I just let it roll off my back!

    • I completely understand where you’re coming from with that, Taylor! I feel the same about being positive, productive, etc. because that is what people take from my blog content. Thank you so much for sharing your sweet comment!

  • OMG I have a post on the reason behind my name scheduled for either this week or next (I can’t remember)! haha I love your blog name!

    • What a coincidence! Clearly, great minds think alike! 🙂 Thank you so much for your comment, Rachel!

  • Love your blog name and the idea behind it! Kindly Unspoken is about encouraging others and spreading kindness! 🙂

    • I think we have similar themes and messages for our blog content, Cara! My content is based on bliss, positivity, and living your best life altogether!

  • Neely

    I love this!

  • I love the name of your blog and think it fits you well! I am glad you were able to find the why you have been searching for in coming up with this name. Explaining your blog to others can definitely be challenging!

    • Thank you so much for being so sweet with your comment, Erin! I love knowing other people agree with my choice for my blog name; and they feel it’s a good fit! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

  • Loved this post! It’s so fun to learn the why about people’s blog names.

    xoxo, Jenny

    • Thank you for your comment, Jenny! Happy to know you’ve enjoyed learning more about my blog!

  • sara

I love your name of your blog. If more people were blissful the world would be a much happier place. Thank you for bringing a positive light to my day.

    • Thank you, Sara! I’m so happy to hear that my blog brings a little bliss and positivity to you day!

  • Patricia Conte

Very cool, and very positive, indeed! My food blog is called “Grab a Plate,” because my love of food was influenced by my Italian family. Whenever someone would visit our home, someone in the family would exclaim, “grab a plate!” because food was always part of the visit 🙂

    • I love that! I’m Italian as well–and I agree food is the main component of the culture! Thank you so much for sharing in your comment!

  • I think it’s OK to create a name and not always 100% live up to that name! Oddly enough when I started my blog four years ago I could NOT think of a name. I was so stumped. I knew I wanted a non-niche and more personal blog so I thought, hell, why not just make it my name? So “AA” (my blog’s name) was born from my nickname, and the URL is just my name! Easy enough! 🙂
