10 Tips for a Stress-Free Morning

Mornings can be stressful. It’s easy to let that stress get to you—but your actions might be affecting how stressed you are each morning, and you might not even realize it. Instead of waking up in a bad mood, try these 10 tips to create a stress-free morning routine for yourself! You’ll add some bliss in your morning routine with little effort.

Don’t pick up your phone:

I am incredibly guilty of this, but I’ve been working to make this a priority in my morning. How many times have you woken up and scrolled through social media before you get out of bed? Then you realize you’ve wasted 30 minutes catching up on what you missed out on; and now you’re running late. Try to get up and begin your routine before turning to your phone.

Plan for the day the night before:

Choose your outfit, make your lunch and breakfast for the following day, have your bag packed and ready waiting by the door. Life is so much easier when you can wake up, and begin the day without thinking, “I hope I don’t forget anything!?” This removes so much stress from your morning.

Go to bed early:

And make it a priority to have a set time to go to sleep and to wake up! For me, I stick to 11-11:30 for going to bed, and waking up around 7:30 each morning. That way, you know you’re well-rested and that you able to take on the day with a calm mind because you got your sleep. When you have a good night of sleep, you’re less stressed.

Have a morning mantra:

This might sound lame, but I promise you that it makes a difference going into the day. Even if you wake up frazzled, have a quote or a saying that you begin each day with. For me, I say, “Today is going to be a good day.” It puts the positive energy out there before you’re out of bed. You’ll be surprised how much a positive statement can change your stress levels.

Don’t hit snooze:

It can be very tempting to hit snooze, especially if you had a long day. But, the more you hit snooze, the harder it will be to wake up and begin the day. And, you don’t want to wake up feeling flustered—that’s the number one way to add stress to your morning. When you set an alarm, wake up and get out of bed immediately to avoid temptation.

Make your bed immediately:

I know there are many people who hate making their beds. But you should because then you’re not tempted to get back in bed and have an unproductive morning. I’m the type of person who has to make their bed first thing in the morning. There’s nothing better than leaving your room knowing it’s clean for when you get home at night.

Don’t skip water or food:

A lot of people say they don’t eat breakfast in the morning. The worst way to begin the day is on an empty stomach. You’ll feel irritated, and you’re more likely to crash during the day. If you hate breakfast, bring a piece of fruit or some yogurt to at least get your metabolism going. And don’t forget water! You need to hydrate after eight hours of sleep. Your body will thank you for this in the long run!

Have enough time:

I don’t understand how people wake up at 7:30 and leave their house at 8. Those 3o minutes are spent running all over the house trying to make it out the door, and into the office on time definitely affects your day. Beginning the day stressed out isn’t fun, and you won’t have a good day. Plan enough time to wake up, get ready, eat and get to work. Don’t rush your morning routine.

Breathe:

If you’re not a morning person and all else fails, just breathe. Remember that it’s going to be okay and that things will get done. It’s very easy to let stress get to you in the morning. So, when it doubt, breathe it out. I promise you’ll make it through!
