8 Tips to Master Your Closet

Posted in Fashion, Lifestyle
on March 15, 2017

It’s that time of year where we declutter old items that no longer fit our style or lifestyle; and take control of our closet space as we transition from winter to spring. Decluttering your closet can be a huge undertaking, especially if you haven’t gone through your wardrobe in over a year or longer. Regardless if it’s your first time decluttering or your tenth time decluttering, I’m here to share 8 tips to help you master your closet. Keep reading if you’re looking to add a little bliss to your space as we move into spring.

1| Make A Plan

Don’t just go into your closet and start throwing things out and putting clothes in a donation bin. Sit down and set aside five minutes to plan out when and how long you’ll need to go through your closet and clothes altogether. Will it take a day or a few hours? Scheduled adequate time to go through your clothes so you don’t run out of time or feel rushed to get it done in an hour.

2| Take It All Out

Yes, take it all out and put it on your bed or floor. Literally everything from tops to seasonal items to shoes. You will be surprised with how much you truly have in your closet. This will help so much because you can see what the damage it and see how much you can donate, sell, toss, etc.

3| Try It All On

Does it fit? Does it look flattering on you? Does it fit your style? It is damaged at all? Is it versatile? Do you feel good when you wear that item? Ask yourself all these questions (and more) when you’re trying on different pieces in your closet. Don’t keep something unless your truly love it and it fits your personal style. If it doesn’t fit/if it’s damaged or you simply don’t love it—out it goes. Read 10 things to remove from your closet right now for help!

4| Create A “6-Month Box”

If you’re not too sure about some items, put them away in a box and store them in your basement, spare closet, or attic for six months. If you don’t find yourself looking for any of those items over the six months, or even thinking about them—you should definitely donate or sell those items once the period is up. it’s a sure way of knowing you didn’t love or need those pieces in your life.

5| Don’t Be Sentimental

You still have your bridesmaid dress from your friend’s wedding from five years ago. It doesn’t fit and you know you will never wear it again. You have scarves from Europe that are damaged and you can’t even wear anymore, yet they’re taking up space in your closet. Why keep those things if you want wear them? Try to remove the sentimental memories from those pieces and stay practical.

6| Be Honest With Yourself

No pair of shoes are worthy of keeping if you can’t wear them for 30 minutes without screaming in pain. Get rid of things that don’t make sense to keep. Why keep a pair of jeans from high school that you probably won’t fit into when you can appreciate the jeans you have now that also fit your body? Don’t hold onto things you don’t need or can’t wear.

7| Organization is Key

Find an organization system that works well for you. If you love to organize your closet by color and sleeve length, perfect! If you prefer to organize the Kon Marie way, that’s great, too! It’s all about what works best for you and what you love. Everyone will have a different preference and that’s okay! Take time to see what is visually appealing to you and what will help you keep your closet organized.

8| Maintain Consistently

Your closet will be easy to maintain if you find an organization system you love (see #7). Also make sure you set aside time every season to review your closet again and see what you can remove, donate, sell, etc. After your initial declutter, it will be much easier to see what you love and don’t love in terms of fashion, style, etc. As long as you dedicate 30 minutes to go through your closet, you will be able to maintain your hard work.

Are you ready to tackle your own closet? When is the last time you decluttered? What other tips do you have for mastering your closet? Make sure to share in the comments below!

5 Things to be Happy About: March 2017

Posted in Health, Lifestyle
on March 6, 2017

Who else is so excited for the new month?!

Can we have a moment, y’all? I’m in denial about how quickly this year has passed by so far. 2017 has been beautiful so far, so part of me wants it to slow down a little. But I will say I’m ready for a new month and a new list of goals to accomplish.

Catch up on February’s edition of “5 Things to Be Happy About!”

Now we can move onto a little gratitude and happiness for March. Make sure to leave a comment below letting me know what you’re excited about for the month. Let’s share a little gratitude and happiness in the blogging community!

1| First Day of Spring

Last month I talked about how I was excited to skip through February so we can get into spring. You have no idea how excited I am to know that spring is around the corner. Spring is a sure sign that warmer weather and lighter days are ahead. It also means I get to finally change up my wardrobe after wearing winter coats and boots for months on end.

2| Lighter Days

You all know that Christmas is my favorite time of year. But once the holidays are over, I’m ready to jump in spring head on and get a little more sunshine and warmer weather in my life. Living in Pennsylvania can be difficult because it can snow until May. I’m definitely looking forward to more sun as the days grow a little longer.

3| Flowers

I’m all about fresh flowers and brining the beauty of nature indoors. March is when I can go crazy with buying new plants for my office, my home and treat myself to more flowers. Because life is too short to have a home without flowers, amiright? So make sure to #treatyoself to some fresh blooms this month because you deserve it (and it will bring a smile to your face every morning).

4| Spring Cleaning

Raise your hand if spring cleaning and decluttering makes you so happy you can’t stand it! (Oh, just me? Okay.) Anyway, I’m ready to go through my spring and summer clothes and declutter more as a new season begins. I’m also ready for a deep clean in our home to freshen everything in a new season. Do you have any spring cleaning checklists that you love? Make sure to send some my way!

5| Wardrobe Change

I’m all about making my needs few and focusing on my more minimalist lifestyle, but with spring comes a change in my wardrobe. I can start putting away bulky sweaters in exchange for light fabrics in pastel colors. My wardrobe and style will get a mini makeover this month as I edit my clothes and bring in new, staple pieces I’ve been looking for. Leave a comment below telling me what your spring wardrobe essentials are. I would love to know!

What are you looking forward to now that it’s March!? Do you have any exciting blog plans for the month? Make sure to share in the comments below!

5 Fashion Trends You Need!

Posted in Fashion
on May 11, 2016

You all know how much I love keeping track of new trends that are popular for different seasons. This spring especially, I’ve been reading about so many amazing trends that I want to add to my wardrobe. I thought I would share some fashion inspiration from some spring trends I’ve seen so far this year.

White Sneakers:

Personally, I love that this is a trend. And I hope it stays a trend for a long time. I hate that there’s pressure for bloggers to dress up everyday. When people see me on a day-to-day basis they tell me, “You blog about fashion?” Yes, just because I like to dress casually most of the time, doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy fashion. I don’t need to wear heels and a dress everyday to love the industry. White sneakers, feel free to stick around.

Statement Earrings:

Ladies, you know how much I love statement necklaces, but I love that we are taking a break from this to make room for more statement pieces! At first, I was skeptical about this trend because I thought: “Oh, that won’t catch on like statement necklaces.” Boy, was I wrong. For the last two months, I have been finding all gorgeous types of statement earrings in stores.

Strappy Bralettes:

If there is a trend I am most looking forward to, it’s the strappy bralette trend. Why? I love casual, relaxed looks for spring and summer. My go-to look consists of a pair of jeans or shorts with baggy, comfortable T-shirts. A strappy bralette would pair perfectly with this type of look. I can’t wait to add this trend into my everyday look for summer!

Lace-Up Flats:

Why haven’t I jumped on this bandwagon yet? I love the look of lace-up flats because they give me bohemian vibes without feeling out of place. Also, how adorable would these be with dresses? I think one of the problems I have with buying shoes is that I always want to invest in higher quality, so they won’t irritate my feet—(this is a sure sign of maturing!)

Leather Wrap Necklace:

I’m not sure if this is a trend I can personally pull off, but you better believe that I’m going to give it a try. I feel like I’m more confident about trying different styles in spring and summer. I don’t know why, but it’s an excuse to buy pieces outside of my comfort zone like this leather wrap necklace. This is a good replacement for anyone who is sick of wearing the same statement necklaces every day.

What trend is your favorite? What trends do you love for spring? Make sure to share in the comments!

5 Fashion Posts I Loved: March 2016

Posted in Fashion
on March 30, 2016

Each week throughout the month of February, I post five links from blog posts I loved to share love to other bloggers. Instead of making that a weekly post on my blog, I decided to incorporate it as a monthly roundup of five posts I loved throughout the month.

Leave a comment below telling me what posts you loved throughout the month whether they are from other bloggers, or from your own blog. Make sure to leave the links to posts as well!

“Red And Striped” from Northwest Blonde

It’s no secret that I love black outfits. I feel like wearing a pop of red is and underrated accent color nowadays because people think it’s overdone. I couldn’t disagree more. Ana’s look is sleek, sophisticated and makes me want to stay in the office for eight hour a day. I also love how equally bright the red accessories are—it’s definitely an eye-catching outfit altogether.

“If I Could Only Wear 10 Pieces of Clothing” from It’s Autumn

Did you know we only wear 20 percent of our closet? Me either until I read Autumn’s post! This definitely made me think about what I wear, what I don’t wear, etc. It’s challenging to pick and choose from everything in your closet, but we all tend to stick to the same pieces. Autumn goes through her wardrobe and chooses 10 pieces of clothing she would wear. I love how unique this post was, and it made me consider what I would wear in my own wardrobe if I could only choose 10 pieces.

“16 Fashion Photography Tips For Non-Fashion Bloggers” from Coming Up Roses

I learned a lot about fashion photography, and I took a class on it in school. Not that one class makes me an expert, but there are some things I never considered with my own photography when I post pictures of outfits on my blog. Erica takes you through a list of amazing tips to help step up your fashion photography game. If you’re into photography, I would definitely recommend reading this before your next shoot.

“2016 Spring Fashion Colors” from Posh Mode Ave.

A few weeks back, I wrote about colors trends I’m excited to try for 2016. Manique goes through the trends listed in the spring round up from the Pantone Color Institute. You’ll get some color inspiration and motivation to step out of your comfort zone and try some of the trends for the season. I personally love serenity, lilac gray and rose quartz. What colors are you loving from the list this year?

“Hot Pink Dress And Lace-Up Sandals” from Haute & Humid

Once in awhile, I will stumbled across a fashion post that makes me want to by the entire outfit right then and there. That was Sara’s post for me this month. There wasn’t one thing I didn’t like about this outfit. Everything about it was effortless and elegant from the bright dress, to the fun colors in the bracelets and shoes. If you’re a person who typically wears black and gray, I feel like you’ll be inspired by her look to add some color to your life.

3 Spring Trends You Need To Try

Posted in Fashion
on March 23, 2016

BB32316_3 Spring Trends 2016(1)I’m definitely feeling spring fever. I love going shopping, and seeing all of the bright colors and new trends for the season. As I’ve been shopping for new items, there have been three consistent trends I’ve been seeing in a ton of stores for spring. So, I decided to share three spring details you should try this season!

I don’t know if you have read about the pom-pom trend, but it’s a fast-growing trend in the fashion world. For example, take a look at this article on pom-pom nails (yes you read that correctly). Now, I’m sure I would ever try pom-pom nails, but this is a trend that I could see working well with a vibrant clutch, or a bohemian-inspired clutch. This detail can easily elevate your look if you’re going to a music festival or spend the day at the beach. I’ve also seen this trend in home decor for decorative pillows and throw blankets. However you incorporate this trend in your life, it will add a lot of color!

Whether you complete your look with a tassel necklace or tassel detailing on a top or dress, it will make a statement for your spring outfit. Now, I know this is a trend you might love or hate, but if you’re skeptical, you can always opt for a tassel key chain to add on your handbag. I’ve been spotting this trend everywhere recently, and it’s beginning to grow on me. I don’t know if I would wear this trend consistently, but it wouldn’t hurt to incorporate it into a spring or summer outfit when the occasion is appropriate.

Fringe took the fashion world by storm in its prime back in the 70s. But, you know what they say, trends from previous decades are coming back in style. The 70s and 90s are particularly popular right now in terms of fashion trends. What I love about fringe is that it’s a simple way to completely change your look to create a relaxed, bohemian vibe. Whether you style an outfit with a pair of sandals with fringe detailing or a handbag with fringe detailing—you will make a statement for sure.

What spring trends have you been loving recently? What trend do you like the best? Make sure to leave a comment below!
