2017 Review (Goals + Vision Board)

HOW ARE WE SO CLOSE TO 2018!?

Is anyone else in denial, or, is it just me?

2017 was arguably the best year YET. And yes, I knew 2016 was going to be hard to top after getting my Master’s at 21, landing my dream job, and moving in with Josh. Somehow, I managed to top those huge milestones by getting engaged, buying a house, and other exciting news I haven’t shared with you all yet.

Today, I want to reflect on my goals for 2017, so I can begin planning my goals for the new year. A few of these goals I’ve already began working on in December, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for the 2018.

Here’s a look at my goals from 2017:

Personal Goals:

1| Read 8-10 books throughout 2017

I’m happy to say I read more than planned for 2017, and I’m extremely happy about reaching this goal! I knew this would be a busy year for me, so I wasn’t sure how this goal would play out, but I ended up reading 12 books this year.

2| Plan 2-3 trips for 2017

We had two trips in 2017: Boston, and Canada. It was our first time visiting Boston, and we had an amazing time. The other trip was a day trip to Niagara Falls, and Niagara on the Lake, which were both so fun! I wanted to plan more trips, but with wedding planning, work, and moving in a home—it was best to skip the trips for the remainder of the year.

3| Achieve my career goals for 2017

I was able to cross this off my list after six months, which was surprising to me because I gave myself a LONG list of goals to achieve at work. Needless to say, I only plan to accomplish more in 2018.

4| Focus on my vision board

If you haven’t read my vision board for the next three years, you’ll see that I gave myself some pretty big things to cross off my list. In only two months, I managed to knock off getting engaged, buying a house, and another milestone I haven’t shared yet with you!

Blogging Goals:

1| Focus on my blog direction

I couldn’t be happier with deciding to change the direction of my blog in 2017. After a year, I’ve created more minimalism and intentional living posts, which brings me so much joy. I hope to continue this in 2018 while adding back in some health content, wellness, etc., that I’ve written over the years as well.

2| Increase blog social media engagement by 20 percent

I knocked this one out of the park, which really shows how low my social media engagement was at the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017. After consistently posting and engaging with others, I’ve seen a huge increase in my overall engagement.

3| Take more risks

This is something I want to work on more in 2018 because I was able to collaborate with bloggers in 2017, but I didn’t do as many as I would have liked. I also took risks with the type of content I shared that was more personal and difficult to write, which I consider to be just as significant’

Financial Goals:

1| Put an extra $8-10,000 into savings

I achieved this goal with ease just after summer. The main reason for wanting to put so much into savings was to continue saving for a home. Since finding our dream home, this money was put to it’s proper use! Now, I’m going on a huge spending freeze at the beginning of the year to get ahead in saving for 2018.

2| Track my spending regularly

I don’t know why I find it so difficult to track my spending regularly. It’s something I’m not used to doing, so I hope to make this a solid habit in 2018.

Health Goals:

1| Increase my weekly running distance

During running season, Josh and I did great with reaching out goal, but it’s also hard to say because we haven’t been running for the last few months with the weather, and moving into our home. I plan to rethink this goal for 2018 and how I can better track it throughout the year.

2| Don’t focus on numbers

Yes. And I couldn’t be happier with not focusing on numbers anymore.

3| Focus on workouts I enjoy

There’s nothing better than doing workouts you love, and that’s what I began doing in 2017. Now, I look forward to Pilates after work, or a total body workout that only take 30 minutes. I can’t recommend this enough!

Next week, I’ll be sharing my 2018 goals with you, but I want to hear how you did with your goals for 2017? What are you most proud of? What’s something you NEVER thought you’d do, but you DID this year? Make sure to share everything in the comments below!

Reflections from 2015 & Resolutions for 2016

Can you believe that another year is over? It’s crazy to think of all the interesting things that have happened in 2015; and that a new year has begun.

Today, I’m reflecting on 2015 and sharing on my resolutions for 2016. I think it’s important to reflect on the current year before looking to the new year ahead. So here are five reflections from 2015 and five resolutions for 2016.

One reflection that has made a big impact on me was buying my domain. I bought my domain in August, and basically had to begin all over again with my blog. You guys gave me the confidence to take my blog to a new level. I’m so thankful for you all! This was a big step for me, and I hope there will be more advancements with my blog in 2016.

I can now say that I’m less than three months away from having a Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. It has been a challenging year academically, but it will be worth it. To coincide with my academics, I struggled with graduating from college. I left a place I called home for three years to return home, finish school online and work at a new job. It has been a difficult change for me, but I know that change is part of life.

I got to travel to new places this year, and I can only hope I’ll be traveling more in 2016. This year, I went to Pittsburgh, D.C. and Baltimore. It was fun to explore new places with my boyfriend and make memories together.

Another struggle I had in 2015 was learning to understand anxiety. It’s a challenge I deal with everyday, and I hope to write about it more to hopefully inspire others to talk about it, and help others who are afraid to come to terms with their anxiety.

Finally, I learned about self love and being kind to myself. Although there are days where I stress about the way I look or feel like I’m not enough, I remind myself that I am enough and that it’s important to love myself no matter what season of life I’m in.

And now, here are five resolutions for 2016:

Be present and spontaneous:

There have been examples throughout the year where I was so caught up thinking about what’s going to come next instead of enjoying what was happening in the present moment. Also, I struggle with being spontaneous because I’m always thinking about the future. For example, “But I’ll be spending x amount of money so I’d better not go on a road trip.” My goal is to be present, spontaneous and enjoy life.

Travel more:

I was lucky to travel this year, and I’m hoping to travel even more in 2016. I love visiting new places, even if it’s in a different state. I think traveling is something every 20-something should do. It’s life-enriching, and it’s an amazing way to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Put my health first:

I did go through some interesting health situations in 2015. That’s why I plan to put my health first in all aspects whether it’s my diet, exercise routine, my happiness, or just my overall physical health. I noticed that my health went on the back burner in 2015 because I was so focused on school and work, but I plan to change that in the coming year.

Embrace change:

There will be many changes in 2016. I’ll be done with my Master’s degree, and I’ll be leaving my student days behind. I’ll begin my career (maybe in a new state). It might also mean moving in with my boyfriend. These are all big changes, but I hope to accept them gracefully.

Learn everyday:

My goal is to never stop learning whether it’s in or out of my field. Some easy ways I can stay on top of learning is by watching documentaries, reading more pieces outside of my comfort zone (philosophy, science, etc.) or travel to learn about cultures. There are many ways to continue learning everyday, and I hope to make this a priority in 2016.
