Refresh Your Beauty & Makeup Routine For Spring

Posted in Beauty
on April 13, 2016

I don’t know about you guys, but I love that spring is here. Although, last week was very disappointing with unplanned rain and snow, the weather is finally in spring mode. In honor of the lovely weather, I decided to revamp my beauty and makeup routine for spring with newer products for my hair, skin and makeup! Be sure to keep reading if you’re looking to refresh your beauty and makeup for spring, too!

Hair:

Moisturize Your Hair: After using the same shampoo and conditioner for five months, I thought it would be time to change things up for the season. I’m not going to lie, I find hair products to be unnecessarily expensive. I would rather invest in products for my skin rather than my hair. However, I have found that this shampoo and conditioner combination from Pantene has helped to restore my hair from its dry and damaged state from the long winter. It has been replenished with moisture, and I’ve been using these product regularly for a few weeks now. I’m hoping to add a hair oil and more hair treatments in my routine, so if you have recommendations, leave a comment!

Skin:

Find A Quality Moisturizer: I’ve honestly used this skincare routine from Estée Lauder since high school, and I swear by it to this day. The products are extremely hydrating and refreshing on your skin, which is exactly what my skin needs after winter. This serum and moisturizer combo treats my skin each day with vitamins C and E, which keep skin looking young and healthy. Also, make sure your moisturizer has SPF! It’s a necessity for protecting your skin.

Remove Your Makeup—Always: I cringe whenever my friends tell me they sleep with their makeup on each night, but they complain about their skin. You need to remove your makeup, and cleanse your skin at night! Sleeping with makeup is such a horrible habit you need to break this spring. I’ve been obsessed with the cleansing water from Simple because it’s hydrating and refreshing on my skin when I remove makeup. I definitely recommend investing in this product. Leave it next to your bed with some cotton rounds for when you’re too lazy to get out of bed.

Scrub Your Skin: After winter, my dull, damaged skin is in desperate need of some TLC. I always purchase a body and face scrub each spring to exfoliate my skin twice a week. That way, I can remove any dead skin cells, and make up my skin is prepped for all the lovely dresses and skirts I’ll be wearing now that the weather is beautiful and warm! I love Ocean Salt from Lush because it not too intense on my skin. It’s soft and moisturizing because it contains sea salt and coconut cream.

Oil Up: As much as I love my Bath & Body Works products, sometimes I need to kick it old school with skin therapy oil from Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula. What I love most about this is that it smells like summer, and it helps to if you have scars in addition to dry, damaged skin. I’ve also read that many people use this if they have Keratosis Pilaris, which I have, so I’m hoping this helps treat that as well. It’s also a great formula if you’re looking to reduce the signs of stretch marks. For $10, this product will last you a very long time, and can replace a body lotion in your beauty routine.

Makeup:

Refresh Your Foundation: I like to lighten up my makeup routine for spring. I pack away any makeup made for winter. Typically, I don’t wear heavy foundation because it never sits well on my face. BB creams and CC creams have been my life saver. I love CC creams for spring especially because they don’t weight my skin down and they’re hydrating. This one from Stila has been my go-to for a few years now. It’s lightweight, but still covers any redness and evens out my complexion.

Lighten Up Your Lips: Don’t get me wrong, I love dark, matte lips as much as the next girl. But for spring, I love to bring out light pinks to incorporate into my routine. I’ve also been loving the combination of pairing liquid lipsticks with glosses. I’ve been reaching for my YSL glosses a ton to mix with the melted liquid lipsticks from Too Faced. My favorite combination is Metallic Bubblegum from Too Faced and Rose Orfèvre from YSL. It’s perfect for spring.

Highlight Your High Points: This past fall and winter, I rarely wore blush or highlighter. Maybe I was a little lazy with my makeup, but it never felt right to use these products on my skin in winter. Now that spring is here, I’ve refreshed my makeup with light pink blush, highlighter and a neutral bronzing powder. I focus the highlighter on areas to like my cheek bones and then with bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks. The Bronze Goddess from Estée Lauder is the best product I’ve ever used. It’s natural looking on my skin, and it lasts for a long time.

I’m curious to know how you refresh your beauty and makeup routine for spring. Make sure to leave a comment below with your favorite products for the season!

Review: Simple Cleansing Micellar Water

Posted in Beauty
on April 4, 2016

BB4416-1

I feel like I haven’t done a beauty review in quite some time. I’m excited to write a review of a product I’ve been obsessed with for the last few weeks. I didn’t include it in my March Favorites because I knew this product deserved a review all on its own.

For the last six months, I’ve been contemplating changing my night routine as far as how I remove makeup. For the last two years, I’ve used Burt’s Bees facial cleansing towelettes. Although this was a good method to remove makeup, over time, the wipes became too harsh to use on my face. Since my skin tends to be more dry, the cleansing wipes weren’t helping my cause.

I turned to the internet to look for new methods for removing makeup. I don’t know about you guys, but I take changing my daily routine very seriously. I research product reviews and first impressions videos to watch and learn about what products will be best for my skin.

When I stumbled this cleansing water from Simple, I was apprehensive because I was used to removing makeup with makeup remover wipes. This was a foreign concept to me. Despite my urge to continue using the same product, I purchased a bottle from Target (along with 100 other things not on my list).

BB4416-2

What I love most about this cleansing water is how hydrated my skin feels after taking off my makeup. When I was using wipes, my skin felt dull and dry, which isn’t a good feeling before bed. I noticed I had several dry patches on my skin, so it needed some major TLC. This formula is made with Triple Purified Water and multi-vitamins, which aids in hydration.

I also love the ease of incorporating this product in your nighttime routine. You don’t even have to rinse the product off, or worry about washing your face afterwards. However, after a long day, I do quickly wash my face to ensure my skin is clean before bed. After, I apply my night moisturizer and I’m all set for the night. It’s that easy.

Compared to makeup remover wipes, I love that this micellar water lasts a long time. You don’t need a ton of product for this cleansing water to work its magic. So, you definitely get your money worth of it if you’re on a budget.

Overall, I don’t have any negative comments about this product, which is rather rare for me—and it is why I wanted to write up a review about the cleansing micellar water. I’m sure it will become a staple in my beauty routine for years to come.

Have you ever tried this product from Simple? If you have, share your thoughts in the comments below!

March Favorites 2016

Posted in Beauty
on March 28, 2016

BB32816

Did I sleep through March?

This was the first month of the year where I felt like it went by quick, but it also went by slow. You know when so much happens in such a short period of time, it feels quick, but then you realize it happened over four weeks, and you think, “Well I guess that was a long time.” I’m not sure if that makes sense, but hopefully you know what I mean.

Anyway, I have a few beauty favorites to share with you guys. Two of them were from two of my last Birchboxes, so I’m excited to share some products I’ve been loving from that as well. Leave a comment below telling me what your beauty favorites are for March, so I can try them out.

Paris Candle: Bath & Body Works

It’s no secret that Bath & Body Works candles are my secret obsession. But when I discovered this scent, my obsessed became too strong. In the month of March alone, I burned through two of this Lavender Macaron candle, and I couldn’t be more in love. I love the mix of sweet and floral scents in this candle, which is probably why it made its way into my favorites this month.

Que Bella Face Masks: Target

I decided to take a break from sheet makes and kick it old school with the Que Bella face masks from Target. I have tried one mask from this brand, and it didn’t work well for my skin. But I decided to try a different mask, and loved it. If you’re looking to save some money, treat your skin to a little TLC with these (especially the skin brightening mask). You won’t regret it!

Hibiscus Guava Fresca: Bath & Body Works

Bath & Body Works never fails me with their fruity, tropical scents. Whenever their collection comes out for spring, I am first in line to smell all the scents. I personally love fruity, exotic scents because they mentally take me to a beach in Hawaii. And who doesn’t want to daydream about Hawaii when they’re stuck in New York? I’ve been carrying this in my bag all month and using it constantly.

Number 4™ Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil: Birchbox

I called this hair oil magical in my March Birchbox Review. I stand by that because although I’ve used many brands of hair oil in the past, this oil has restored my dull, dry strands. I must warn you because one drop will go a long way with your hair. Anymore will leave it greasy. This was another product I didn’t want to purchase from Birchbox because I felt that $26 would be too much. Since a little goes a long way, and the quality is wonderful—and I’ve changed my mind on it!

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle: Birchbox

I am obsessed with this product. I had mentioned back in February that it was the product I was the least excited about trying. I don’t love receiving hair products because I typically stick to the same products and brands. However, I love the scent of this protector, and it helps to remove frizz. Before, I was skeptical about repurchasing this product for $21, but now I’m thinking it will be a necessity.

Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipstick: Sephora

You guys have seen so many posts where I talk about this product. I promise this will (maybe) be the last for awhile. I was mentioning how I was looking for a fresh, pink color for spring. After some researching some color options, I felt like the options weren’t working for me. Then, I stumbled into my own makeup and forgot that I had a light pink shade that I had never used yet. I’ve been wearing this all month long, and I feel like I’ll continue to wear it in April.

March Birchbox Review

Posted in Beauty
on March 21, 2016

BB32116-1

I’m sad to say that I only have two more Birchboxes left in my six-month subscription. I’m going to miss receiving a package of goodies to try each month. But, I’m sure I’ll make the most of these last few boxes.

I received my March Birchbox a few days into the new month, which is great because then I had ample time to test out the products and really see whether I loved them or not. I’m happy to say I feel very informed about the products in my box to offer an in-dept review of each item.

BB32116-2

theBalm cosmetics Stainiac:

Sometimes, you need to begin a review with the worst product just to get all the feelings out there. This was easily the worst product in my box this month. I tried to like it because I’ve been purchasing more cheek and lip stains, but this product did nothing for me. There was almost no color even if you tried to apply, reapply, and reapply the stain to your lips. When I tried to apply it to my cheeks, it left an awkward, unblendable mark when I set the product on my skin. Overall, it was my least favorite.

Cargo Land Down Under Eye Shadow Palette:

The two colors I received in my sample were “Sand” and “The Rocks.” I simply did not like the color sand because it was an awkward yellow-meets-gold shade. I love the pigmentation of “The Rocks” because it would be great for a night time look, but I don’t think “Sand” would be appropriate for any occasion whether it’s day or night. I wish there was an opportunity to choose the shades that come in your sample because trying colors that look good with my skin tone would make me want to purchase the product myself. Even for an inexpensive price of $34, I wouldn’t buy this palette.

Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm:

This product was a little confusing to me because although it said you could apply it to your lips, I felt like the texture and consistency was too thick to put on my lips. I read you could also use it to moisturize cuticles and other dry patches on your body. I will say it worked very well for my cuticles and on my elbows. However, I don’t think it’s a product that’s worth the hype. After a few days, I decided to give it a try on my lips and could not get used to the texture (similar to Vaseline). Overall, this wasn’t the worst product I received, but it wasn’t my favorite either.

Wilma Schumann Skincare Hydrating Collagen Eye Pad:

So many people struggle with puffiness and dark circles under their eyes. There are days where my under-eye area could look better, but there aren’t any major problems. However, after a long two weeks, and a much needed pamper evening, I decided to give the eye pads a try. I loved that the eye pads were a gel material, which left a cooling sensation on my skin. The skin around my eyes after 20 minutes felt soft and hydrated. And, you receive five packs of the eye pads for $18, which is a great deal in my book.

Number 4™ Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil:

This hair oil is magical. I’ve used many brands of hair oil in the past, but I will say that this has restored the life to my dull, dry strands. What I love most about this product is how it transforms my hair before styling. I truly feel like it gives me a celebrity shine to my hair after curling it for the day. The only thing you need to know it that one drop will go a long way with your hair. Anyone more than that will leave it looking greasy. My only concern about purchasing this product is the price for the quantity you receive. $26 for two ounces doesn’t seem like a lot even though you only need one pump for your hair.

Spring Beauty Wish List

Posted in Beauty
on March 14, 2016

BB31416_SpringBeautyWishList

I’m beyond excited for spring. There’s nothing better than being able to pack away my winter items and bring out everything I use for spring. Today, I’m sharing five beauty products on my spring wish list for 2016! Make sure to let me know what’s on your spring beauty wish list in the comments!

Laura Mercier Crème Brûlée Sugar Scrub:

I’ve been wanting to treat myself to a high-end scrub for the last few months, but I haven’t taken the plunge yet. Although I think $50 for a sugar scrub might be a little too much for me, I think it would be worth it based on the quality of Laura Mercier’s products. I’m also a little obsessed with the scent and name of this scrub.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick:

You guys know that I’ve been a die-hard fan of Too Faced’s liquid lipsticks since Christmastime when I received my first gift set of four shades. However, those were all more suitable for fall and winter. Now, I’m looking for shades that will be perfect for spring and summer. I have my eye on Dusty Rose for spring!

Too Faced Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush:

This was another product I fell in love with back around the holidays because I received some blushes and bronzers from Too Faced. Now, They’re the only products I use religiously, but I haven’t purchased a full-sized sample yet; but I’m hoping to buy “Your Love is King” this season.

Escada Turquoise Summer Rollerball:

A few summers ago, I had a bottle of Pure Paradise from Escada and fell in love with it! I’ve been researching light, fresh scents for spring and summer—and this seems to be a popular choice based on reviews and preferences. I’m hoping to give this product a try and have it for the upcoming seasons!

boscia Charcoal Pore-Minimizing Hydrogel Mask:

You guys know how much I love sheet masks. I’ve tried several brands, but I want to keep trying more. I’ve read incredible reviews about boscia products and how their sheet mask is great for reducing pores and giving your skin a little TLC. After winter, my skin could definitely use it!
