5 Things to be Happy About: November

Posted in Lifestyle
on November 6, 2017

We’re two days away from completely diving into the holiday season, and I couldn’t be more excited. At the same time, I can’t believe that there are only two months left in 2017. My goal is to make these last two months of the year count, and enjoy as much of the holiday season as possible. Let me know what you’re looking forward to this month whether it’s Thanksgiving, holiday shopping, food, or something else going on in your life that you’re feeling blissful about.

1| Owning a Home

As you’re reading this, we’re moving into our home this week! It’s unbelievable to think that just a few short months ago, we decided to make the largest purchase we will ever invest in. Needless to say, our lives are packed up in boxes, and we are working on making our house a home. If you want to read more about our home-buying journey, give one of my recent posts a read!

2| It’s Acceptable to Think About Christmas

And by acceptable to THINK about Christmas, I mean that it’s acceptable to start listening to Christmas music, begin Christmas shopping, and participating in all the winter-related activities.  (I know not everyone will agree with me, but i know there MUST be some Christmas-lovers out there!) Once we get through Halloween, my attention is slightly moving away from wedding planning and moving, and now is focused on Christmas, baking, and all the holiday things.

3| Focusing on Gratitude

You all know I’m a huge proponent of expressing gratitude as often as you can, which is why I’m planning a challenge for myself to express gratitude all month long with journal prompts, random acts of kindness for coworkers and strangers, and everything in between. Last year, I had a list of challenges for myself and I found that doing one every single day was a little difficult, so I plan to spread the challenges out throughout the month.

4| Holiday Shopping

I am one of those people that will most likely have their holiday shopping done by Thanksgiving. Especially with moving into the house, wedding planning, work, and life in general, I try to work ahead as much as possible so that I’m not rushing around to the last minute and feeling stressed during the holidays. This year, I want to be more conscious about spending money after purchasing the house, so I’m looking into DIYs. Make sure to share any DIY gift ideas you have!

5| FOOD.

Need I say more? November is the beginning of a two-month eating frenzy that we indulge in. From pies and all the food during Thanksgiving dinner, to holiday cookie swaps in the office, you better believe that this month is the beginning of eating all the best food. And I’m ready for it.

What are you looking forward to this month whether it’s related to the holidays or something else good going in your life? Make sure to share in the comments below!

10 Things to be Happy About: November Edition

Posted in Lifestyle
on November 7, 2016

Another month has flown past us, which means that I’m sharing a late post on 10 things I’m looking forward to now that it’s November. If you’re a Christmas lover like I am, you’re most likely soaking up all the Christmas festivities for the two months you have to enjoy it all. If you’re looking for a happy, light-hearted post, keep reading for little bliss in your life.

1| All. The. Layers!

Now that it’s November, it’s undeniable that we will be dressing in excessive layers for the late fall months. I will admit that I don’t mind busting out my sweaters and leggings for this time of year. I feel more comfy in clothes at the end of the year.

2| Expressing Gratitude

I’m working on spreading kindness and expressing gratitude for all the people in my life. If you’ve read my recent post, I’m challenging myself to do something kind or as an expression of gratitude all month long. It’s the season of giving back and sharing love.

3| Holiday Shopping

I make it my mission to get all my holiday shopping done before December. Now, I will admit that I don’t get every little bit of shopping done. But I try to get more than 90 percent of it done this month, and I can’t wait for Christmas shopping this season.

4| Christmas Music

You best believe I’m be blasting Michael Bublé’s Christmas album. (As I pretend I haven’t been listening to it already…) I don’t know what it is, but I am in the minority of people who love Christmas music. I only have two months to enjoy it, so I’ll be doing just that.

5| Starbucks Holiday Drinks

Y’all, Chestnut Praline Lattes are everything I want and need around this time of year. I try not to go overboard with my Starbucks visits, but I do treat myself a little more to these around this time of year since they are seasonal.

6| World Kindness Day

Mark your calendars for November 13th and do something kind because let’s be honest; the world could use a little more kindness. #amiright?! I have been challenging myself to do an act of kindness or show gratitude in some form throughout this month.

7| My Anniversary

Josh and I have been together for over three years! I’m happy to say after more than six months of living together, we couldn’t be happier. After being in an LDR for over two years, living in the same place has been a wonderful change. I’m looking forward to celebrating with him this month.

8| Thanksgiving

It’s the one day a year you can’t be judged for eating excessively. Even though I don’t care if people judged my excessive eating on a regular day. I’ll be eating stuffing and pumpkin pie until I can’t breathe; and I’m looking forward to all the pain and regret afterwards that will come from eating too much.

9| Black Friday

I’ve worked on Black Friday every year since I was 16, and I don’t hate it. At least this year I won’t be involved in the retail side of things, but more the marketing side of it, which I know will be fun and exciting in the midst of a crazy day.

10| Cooking

Late fall and early winter is the time of year where I want to cook more, and learn and practice new recipes. I have saved quite a few recipes from Pinterest, and I can’t wait to try them out all month long. I’ll be sure to let you know which ones have been my favorites!

17 Ways to Celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day

Posted in Lifestyle
on February 17, 2016

BB21716

For those who read my post on 10 things I’m looking forward to in February, you read about World Kindness Day. Today, I’m sharing how you can easily celebrate World Kindness Day this year. Here are 17 ways to celebrate this (very necessary) holiday.

1. Write a thank-you note for your mailman.

It’s always nice to send extra appreciation for the man who delivers your mail every day.

2. Leave a kind note in a public bathroom.

Write “You’re beautiful” on post-it notes and leave them in public places for people to read. You’ll make people smile for days to come.

3. Plant a tree.

Why wait until Arbor Day? If the weather is nice where you live in February, go plant a tree. The world could definitely use it.

4. Pay for the person’s coffee behind you in line.

This is the best surprise to receive. What’s an extra few dollars to cheer up a person?

5. Volunteer in your community (soup kitchen, education program, etc.)

However you decide to volunteer, make sure it’s something that’s important to you.

6. Pick up garbage in your local park.

You won’t believe how much garbage is in your neighborhood or park. Take an hour to walk and pick up trash.

7. Donate old items you don’t need.

Why not start spring cleaning early! Go through your closet to get rid of old clothes, books and shoes to donate.

8. Shovel your neighbor’s driveway.

Especially if they are an older couple, they would definitely appreciate the help. Plus, it’s a good workout for you!

9. Leave a generous tip for a waitress.

Don’t forget to leave a nice note on the check to accompany the kind tip.

10. Send flowers to a friend.

What better way to share love and kindness than sending flowers to a friend? Especially if they have been going through a rough time recently.

11. Write a card or a hand-written note to a loved one.

Think of a relative you haven’t talked to recently, and write up a hand-written note saying you’re thinking of them and wishing them well.

12. Compliment several people throughout the day.

Make sure they are genuine compliments. It’s the easiest way to spread kindness; and it’s the easiest easy way to give someone a boost of confidence.

13. Leave $2 in an envelope for someone to use at the vending machine.

Maybe someone will be a dime short on a bottle of water. It might also inspire continuous kindness throughout the day.

14. Walk dogs at your local pet shelter.

You won’t regret this. Just try not to adopt them all at once (Trust me, I know it’s tempting).

15. Donate blood.

If you can donate blood, it’s a great way to give back to people who need it most.

16. Babysit your friend’s children for free.

Anyone who has children will appreciate this more than you know. Give up a free evening so your friends can enjoy a night out.

17. Hold open the door for the person behind you.

It’s a simple gesture and takes two minutes of your time. Give a warm smile, as well! It will instantly make their day.
