FebYOUary: 7 Ways to Pamper Yourself This Weekend

Posted in Beauty, Health
on February 7, 2018

Because Treat Yo’ self.

It’s February, and I know that you’re looking to treat yourself to a little pampering session. Most of us after even considered getting our nails done since the holidays, so why start now? Well, as we have learned so far, taking care of yourself is important, and you deserve to treat yourself to a some pampering this weekend. Instead of making too many plans that you can’t possible commit to in 48 hours, spend part of your weekend alone to take care of your mind, body and soul. If you’re looking to add a little bliss to your weekend, keep on reading!

1| Deep stretches

No, I’m not saying you need to go all out with a workout here. I’m saying that it’s amazing how calming and soothing stretching is for your muscles. You can even give yourself a massage throughout the process. Stretching is in a sense, therapy, because of how it relaxes your muscles and removes tension and pain from your body. It’s something we should do FAR more than we should. So, if you don’t feel like making your own face mask, spend 20 minutes really stretching out your body and working on your muscles.

2| Treat yo hair

Now, if you’re into all the DIY treatments and fun things, you should treat your hair to a little pampering this weekend. I don’t know if you all have had the same CRAZY cold weather recently, but let me just say that my hair is not having it. We moisturize our skin, and we should also moisturize our hair with a deep-conditioning treatment. My favorite is simply adding coconut oil to the end of my hair, leaving it in for 10 minutes, and then get in the shower. I treat my hair by adding sugar to my shampoo while I wash the coconut oil out of my hair. Yes, you hear that right! It’s an easy way to exfoliate and treat your scalp to some TLC, too. Take your hair care a step further by not using heat-styling tools for the weekend. Your hair will thank you!

3| Essential oils + soundscapes

I never knew the hype around essentials oils until I began using them. Now, I’m a smell away from a luxurious spa. The power of scent and sound is truly incredible. I didn’t realize how pampered I could feel until I played into the sound and scent more in my home. I purchased my first essential oil, and I massage it into my temples, behind my ears, and neck. While I do that, I play soundscapes like a thunderstorm, rainforest sounds, or sounds of the ocean. Needless to say, after 10 minutes, I feel completely refreshed and rejuvenated. It’s honestly my own form of meditation and now it’s something I look forward to practicing regularly.

4| Hygge

If you haven’t been on the Internet for the last year, you may not know what hygge is. Well, here’s what hygge is all about and why you need to incorporate it into your life. The main point of this Danish way of living is to create a calm and cozy atmosphere. All my candle-loving, hot-cocoa-drinking babes can rejoice! Set the mood with dimmed lights, your favorite warm drinks, candles, blankets, and enjoy the moment. How is this pampering, you ask? Oftentimes, we only see pampering as creating a spa-like environment in your home. Well, you can pamper your mind and soul by indulging in hygge. Another key component to hygge is about being present and enjoying the moment whether it’s with friends or by yourself. So, invite your close friends over for a nice meal and time together. Keep your phone away, and enjoy each other’s company.

5| Deep clean your skin

We’re talking about your entire skin, girl. You’re going to need about an hour or so for this much pampering, but I promise you will feel like a whole new person afterwards. Start with a deep exfoliating scrub all over your skin: arm, legs, elbows, knees, etc. Then, wash it off with warm, soapy water. Now, take the time to shave your legs (because I’m sure it has been awhile since it’s winter). Next, moisturize your skin all over to finish the job! Moving on to your face will take a few more steps, but begin again with a exfoliating treatment. After washing your skin, steam your pores with boiling hot water. Do this for about five minutes. Allow your skin to rest for a few minutes before applying your favorite sheet mask or pore-cleaning mask that has charcoal in it. Moisturize and apply your serum as normal and you will feel like you walked out of a 2-hour spa session!

6| At-home nail care

As if you needed another thing to pamper, am I right?! Sometimes, you need to give yourself a break from spending money at the salon on your manicures and pedicures. Instead, treat your nail and toes to an at-home, pampering session when they can get a little rest from the gel polish. Cut your nails and file them. Treat your cuticles to an oil treatment, and push back your cuticles. Massage cream into your hands for about 10 minutes, and you’re good to go. Repeat the same steps for your toes!

7| Rest

Is there anything more important than true rest? Pamper yourself by allowing yourself time to take a nap in the middle of the day, or going to bed two hours early, or by sleeping in an extra hour. Take time to lay on the couch and watch a few episodes of your favorite show. Take the time to rest your body properly. Between work, working out, and just being human—we need to give ourselves more time to rest. Allow yourself to do just that. Put on your comfy clothes, grab your coziest blanket, and relax.

What are some things YOU treat yourself to during a pamper session? How will you treat yourself this weekend? Make sure to tell me in the comments below!

I Added Sugar to my Shampoo for a Month & Here’s What Happened

Posted in Beauty
on March 20, 2017

Girl say whaaa?

Yes, you heard me. Shampoo + Sugar = Beautiful Hair. Who knew? If you’re interested in seeing how you can transform your hair in a month, keep on reading! I promise this one addition to your hair-care routine will be life changing!

With all the crazy, inconsistent weather and not taking care of my hair like I normally do—my hair was in desperate need of a little extra TLC. It was dry, damaged, and needed help ASAP. And you know me, you know that I’m not one to spend a lot of money on special hair treatments, products, etc. because I’m not about that life. I like to keep my beauty routine short and sweet.

In all honesty, I should lay off the dry shampoo a little more. I notice that even though it’s one of two products I use in my hair, it doesn’t help keep it healthy. Sure, you don’t need to wash your hair every day. But I have taken this a little too seriously and by Thursday my hair is 99 percent dry shampoo and one percent hair. I was out looking for a way to treat my hair and reverse some damage over the last few months.

One night I was 150 pins deep on Pinterest when I found an article about adding white sugar to shampoo to help exfoliate it and help treat the damaged parts of your hair. Needless to say my mind was BLOWN because I use sugar to create my own lip/face/body scrubs, so why wouldn’t I think to do the same for my hair? I was ready to try this the same night and create my own experiment to see how it would change my hair after a few weeks.

The perk of using sugar is that it dissolves easily while still giving all those benefits for your scalp. When I realized that I could incorporate this into my hair-care routine, I got to work. Since I wash my hair every other day, I thought that exfoliating my hair once a week would be acceptable. I simply added a tablespoon of sugar to my shampoo, lathered up, rinsed, and conditioned as normal. I recommend really taking your time when you shampoo your hair to work the sugar and shampoo all over your scalp. Take your time since you’re only going to do this once a week.

While exfoliating my hair for the first time, I immediately noticed how good it made my scalp feel. TBH it was a mini massage, which felt incredible. When I finished washing my hair, it felt even more clean and pampered than normal. It was an extra treat for my hair. The next day, styling my hair felt like a breeze. I don’t know if this was because I was having a good hair day or, or if it was from exfoliating—but I’ll take it! You know when you exfoliate your face, and it feels soft and free of any excess dryness? That’s exactly how my hair felt after my shower and the following day. Needless to say, I was hooked.

After three weeks, I noticed that my hair wasn’t shedding as much when I shampooed my hair. I know it’s completely normal to shed hair throughout the day, but it helps keep the drain clean and doesn’t make me panic like when I used to see a cat-sized mound of hair on the shower wall. (I don’t think I’m the only one who feels this way, right?!) Also, I noticed that my scalp was less oily. I learned that when you stimulate your scalp more, it helps to remove excess oils to keep your hair healthy. This was  a huge perk for me because it helps me use just a little less dry shampoo than I normally would on my no-wash days for my hair.

All in all, I have noticed that this once simple addition to my hair routine has shown a huge difference in my hair. Like exfoliating your face, body or lips, your hair deserves to reap the benefits of exfoliating, too!

Have you ever tried this beauty hack before? Would you consider it? What other tips to you have to treat your hair in winter? Make sure to share in the comments below!

Refresh Your Beauty & Makeup Routine For Spring

Posted in Beauty
on April 13, 2016

I don’t know about you guys, but I love that spring is here. Although, last week was very disappointing with unplanned rain and snow, the weather is finally in spring mode. In honor of the lovely weather, I decided to revamp my beauty and makeup routine for spring with newer products for my hair, skin and makeup! Be sure to keep reading if you’re looking to refresh your beauty and makeup for spring, too!

Hair:

Moisturize Your Hair: After using the same shampoo and conditioner for five months, I thought it would be time to change things up for the season. I’m not going to lie, I find hair products to be unnecessarily expensive. I would rather invest in products for my skin rather than my hair. However, I have found that this shampoo and conditioner combination from Pantene has helped to restore my hair from its dry and damaged state from the long winter. It has been replenished with moisture, and I’ve been using these product regularly for a few weeks now. I’m hoping to add a hair oil and more hair treatments in my routine, so if you have recommendations, leave a comment!

Skin:

Find A Quality Moisturizer: I’ve honestly used this skincare routine from Estée Lauder since high school, and I swear by it to this day. The products are extremely hydrating and refreshing on your skin, which is exactly what my skin needs after winter. This serum and moisturizer combo treats my skin each day with vitamins C and E, which keep skin looking young and healthy. Also, make sure your moisturizer has SPF! It’s a necessity for protecting your skin.

Remove Your Makeup—Always: I cringe whenever my friends tell me they sleep with their makeup on each night, but they complain about their skin. You need to remove your makeup, and cleanse your skin at night! Sleeping with makeup is such a horrible habit you need to break this spring. I’ve been obsessed with the cleansing water from Simple because it’s hydrating and refreshing on my skin when I remove makeup. I definitely recommend investing in this product. Leave it next to your bed with some cotton rounds for when you’re too lazy to get out of bed.

Scrub Your Skin: After winter, my dull, damaged skin is in desperate need of some TLC. I always purchase a body and face scrub each spring to exfoliate my skin twice a week. That way, I can remove any dead skin cells, and make up my skin is prepped for all the lovely dresses and skirts I’ll be wearing now that the weather is beautiful and warm! I love Ocean Salt from Lush because it not too intense on my skin. It’s soft and moisturizing because it contains sea salt and coconut cream.

Oil Up: As much as I love my Bath & Body Works products, sometimes I need to kick it old school with skin therapy oil from Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula. What I love most about this is that it smells like summer, and it helps to if you have scars in addition to dry, damaged skin. I’ve also read that many people use this if they have Keratosis Pilaris, which I have, so I’m hoping this helps treat that as well. It’s also a great formula if you’re looking to reduce the signs of stretch marks. For $10, this product will last you a very long time, and can replace a body lotion in your beauty routine.

Makeup:

Refresh Your Foundation: I like to lighten up my makeup routine for spring. I pack away any makeup made for winter. Typically, I don’t wear heavy foundation because it never sits well on my face. BB creams and CC creams have been my life saver. I love CC creams for spring especially because they don’t weight my skin down and they’re hydrating. This one from Stila has been my go-to for a few years now. It’s lightweight, but still covers any redness and evens out my complexion.

Lighten Up Your Lips: Don’t get me wrong, I love dark, matte lips as much as the next girl. But for spring, I love to bring out light pinks to incorporate into my routine. I’ve also been loving the combination of pairing liquid lipsticks with glosses. I’ve been reaching for my YSL glosses a ton to mix with the melted liquid lipsticks from Too Faced. My favorite combination is Metallic Bubblegum from Too Faced and Rose Orfèvre from YSL. It’s perfect for spring.

Highlight Your High Points: This past fall and winter, I rarely wore blush or highlighter. Maybe I was a little lazy with my makeup, but it never felt right to use these products on my skin in winter. Now that spring is here, I’ve refreshed my makeup with light pink blush, highlighter and a neutral bronzing powder. I focus the highlighter on areas to like my cheek bones and then with bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks. The Bronze Goddess from Estée Lauder is the best product I’ve ever used. It’s natural looking on my skin, and it lasts for a long time.

I’m curious to know how you refresh your beauty and makeup routine for spring. Make sure to leave a comment below with your favorite products for the season!

March Favorites 2016

Posted in Beauty
on March 28, 2016

BB32816

Did I sleep through March?

This was the first month of the year where I felt like it went by quick, but it also went by slow. You know when so much happens in such a short period of time, it feels quick, but then you realize it happened over four weeks, and you think, “Well I guess that was a long time.” I’m not sure if that makes sense, but hopefully you know what I mean.

Anyway, I have a few beauty favorites to share with you guys. Two of them were from two of my last Birchboxes, so I’m excited to share some products I’ve been loving from that as well. Leave a comment below telling me what your beauty favorites are for March, so I can try them out.

Paris Candle: Bath & Body Works

It’s no secret that Bath & Body Works candles are my secret obsession. But when I discovered this scent, my obsessed became too strong. In the month of March alone, I burned through two of this Lavender Macaron candle, and I couldn’t be more in love. I love the mix of sweet and floral scents in this candle, which is probably why it made its way into my favorites this month.

Que Bella Face Masks: Target

I decided to take a break from sheet makes and kick it old school with the Que Bella face masks from Target. I have tried one mask from this brand, and it didn’t work well for my skin. But I decided to try a different mask, and loved it. If you’re looking to save some money, treat your skin to a little TLC with these (especially the skin brightening mask). You won’t regret it!

Hibiscus Guava Fresca: Bath & Body Works

Bath & Body Works never fails me with their fruity, tropical scents. Whenever their collection comes out for spring, I am first in line to smell all the scents. I personally love fruity, exotic scents because they mentally take me to a beach in Hawaii. And who doesn’t want to daydream about Hawaii when they’re stuck in New York? I’ve been carrying this in my bag all month and using it constantly.

Number 4™ Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil: Birchbox

I called this hair oil magical in my March Birchbox Review. I stand by that because although I’ve used many brands of hair oil in the past, this oil has restored my dull, dry strands. I must warn you because one drop will go a long way with your hair. Anymore will leave it greasy. This was another product I didn’t want to purchase from Birchbox because I felt that $26 would be too much. Since a little goes a long way, and the quality is wonderful—and I’ve changed my mind on it!

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle: Birchbox

I am obsessed with this product. I had mentioned back in February that it was the product I was the least excited about trying. I don’t love receiving hair products because I typically stick to the same products and brands. However, I love the scent of this protector, and it helps to remove frizz. Before, I was skeptical about repurchasing this product for $21, but now I’m thinking it will be a necessity.

Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipstick: Sephora

You guys have seen so many posts where I talk about this product. I promise this will (maybe) be the last for awhile. I was mentioning how I was looking for a fresh, pink color for spring. After some researching some color options, I felt like the options weren’t working for me. Then, I stumbled into my own makeup and forgot that I had a light pink shade that I had never used yet. I’ve been wearing this all month long, and I feel like I’ll continue to wear it in April.
