10 Things to be Happy About: November Edition

Another month has flown past us, which means that I’m sharing a late post on 10 things I’m looking forward to now that it’s November. If you’re a Christmas lover like I am, you’re most likely soaking up all the Christmas festivities for the two months you have to enjoy it all. If you’re looking for a happy, light-hearted post, keep reading for little bliss in your life.

1| All. The. Layers!

Now that it’s November, it’s undeniable that we will be dressing in excessive layers for the late fall months. I will admit that I don’t mind busting out my sweaters and leggings for this time of year. I feel more comfy in clothes at the end of the year.

2| Expressing Gratitude

I’m working on spreading kindness and expressing gratitude for all the people in my life. If you’ve read my recent post, I’m challenging myself to do something kind or as an expression of gratitude all month long. It’s the season of giving back and sharing love.

3| Holiday Shopping

I make it my mission to get all my holiday shopping done before December. Now, I will admit that I don’t get every little bit of shopping done. But I try to get more than 90 percent of it done this month, and I can’t wait for Christmas shopping this season.

4| Christmas Music

You best believe I’m be blasting Michael Bublé’s Christmas album. (As I pretend I haven’t been listening to it already…) I don’t know what it is, but I am in the minority of people who love Christmas music. I only have two months to enjoy it, so I’ll be doing just that.

5| Starbucks Holiday Drinks

Y’all, Chestnut Praline Lattes are everything I want and need around this time of year. I try not to go overboard with my Starbucks visits, but I do treat myself a little more to these around this time of year since they are seasonal.

6| World Kindness Day

Mark your calendars for November 13th and do something kind because let’s be honest; the world could use a little more kindness. #amiright?! I have been challenging myself to do an act of kindness or show gratitude in some form throughout this month.

7| My Anniversary

Josh and I have been together for over three years! I’m happy to say after more than six months of living together, we couldn’t be happier. After being in an LDR for over two years, living in the same place has been a wonderful change. I’m looking forward to celebrating with him this month.

8| Thanksgiving

It’s the one day a year you can’t be judged for eating excessively. Even though I don’t care if people judged my excessive eating on a regular day. I’ll be eating stuffing and pumpkin pie until I can’t breathe; and I’m looking forward to all the pain and regret afterwards that will come from eating too much.

9| Black Friday

I’ve worked on Black Friday every year since I was 16, and I don’t hate it. At least this year I won’t be involved in the retail side of things, but more the marketing side of it, which I know will be fun and exciting in the midst of a crazy day.

10| Cooking

Late fall and early winter is the time of year where I want to cook more, and learn and practice new recipes. I have saved quite a few recipes from Pinterest, and I can’t wait to try them out all month long. I’ll be sure to let you know which ones have been my favorites!

A Month of Gratitude & Kindness

November is finally here, and while I can’t quite wrap my mind around that fact—I’m definitely looking forward to this month. This month especially, I’m going to plan something a little different as a challenge for the month. I want to try and practice gratitude, kindness and giving every day throughout the month of November.

You all know how important expressing gratitude and giving back are to me whether it’s through my “10 Things to be Happy About” posts every month, or if I’m sharing the love in the blogging community each month. These little acts of kindness and giving can make a person’s day, so why not try and extend those actions for an entire month? How do I plan to do that? It will involve a ton of journaling, giving back and other little kindness challenges throughout the month.

This isn’t something I plan to promote excessively, but I do challenge you all to try and think a little more about expressing gratitude and giving more as we approach the holiday season. It’s always good to challenge yourself to be a little more kind, giving and thankful. Trust me, you will feel good about doing any of these tasks throughout the month.

Below are my personal challenges to complete throughout the month of November.

If you do try any of these challenges, or create your own kindness and gratitude challenge for the month, make sure to reach out on Twitter (@BlissBrunette). I would love to know what challenges you’re doing throughout the month! I hope everyone can find some time to express gratitude and share a little kindness with the world in their own way this month. Trust me, the world could use that positive, happy energy!

How do you plan to give back this month? Have you ever completed a gratitude or kindness challenge before? Make sure to leave a comment below!

10 Things to be Happy About: September

BB9516_10 Things to be Happy About(3)

1| Labor Day Weekend

Happy Labor Day, friends! I’m happy to say that I got to spend the weekend relaxing with family and friends for part of this extended weekend. But who doesn’t love a three-day weekend followed by only four days of work? I hope you all enjoy your Labor Day!

2| Fall Candles from Bath & Body Works

I would be lying if I said I didn’t already purchase some candles from the Bath & Body Work’s Fall Collection. But can you blame me? I’m serious when I say that Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow is one of the best scents ever! Make sure you check out their collection ASAP.

3| Sweaters without Sweating

Isn’t the best weather when you can wear sweaters outdoors, but you’re not sweating and you don’t need a jacket? For me, September offers the best type of weather and you can only enjoy it during this month here in Pennsylvania. I’m going to enjoy every minute of it.

4| Perfect Temperatures

Going off of number three is that September is the best type of weather altogether because no matter what you’re doing outside, it’s in the mid 50s, so it’s not too hot or too cold. It’s the perfect weather for fall festivals, and crossing everything off your fall bucket list.

5| Read a Book Day

One of my goals for this month is to read at least two books. With a full-time job working more than 40 hours a week, it can be difficult to sit down, relax and enjoy reading a book even if you’re a book lover like myself. But I plan to meet this goal keeping this day in mind.

6| Change in Season

Fall is my favorite season because you can feel a change in the season and it sets happier mood for so many people who love this time of year. The leaves begin to change and the a comfy, cozy vibe all around you (mostly due to candles and Starbucks PSLs.)

7| First Day of Fall

You all know I’m counting down the days to September 21st when it’s the official first day of fall. Mainly because I know I’ll be called basic until drinking my PSLs, burning my BBW candles and creating my fall bucket list for the season.

8| Positive Thinking Day

I’m all about #PositiveVibes. Personally, I believe whatever energy you put out in the universe is what you will receive. So remember that when you’re going through difficult times. There’s always something to be happy or positive about.

9| Fall Fashion

Let’s get one thing out of the way. Fall fashion is the best fashion. I love layering clothes for a comfortable, chic look; and I love wearing all the boots for this time of year. There’s nothing better than pulling out all my fall clothes that have been in storage since last season.

10| Back to School

Although I’m not going to back to school, I act like it by setting aside time to learn and educate myself whether I’m studying a new language, reading about a new topic, or watching documentaries. I never want to stop learning, so I make it a mission to learn every day.

10 Things to be Happy About: August Edition

BB8816_10 Things to be Happy About(2)I can’t believe summer is almost over. I feel that I didn’t take advantage of summer as much as I should have, so I’m hoping to get as much done this month before we welcome a new season that’s right around the corner. Make sure to leave a comment telling me what YOU are loving about the month of August!

1| National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day

If you’ve been around the blog here for awhile, you’ll know that I’m all about chocolate chip cookies. So this “holiday” (let’s be real it’s essentially Christmas in August) is what I’m all here for. Make sure you grab some chocolate chip cookies ASAP.

2| Book Lovers Day

I’m trying to channel my inner book nerd by reading a little more this month, and I never knew there was a book lovers day. If you’re like me and enjoy a good book, leave a comment below telling me what you’ve been reading recently!

3| End of Summer

So, I know that the end of summer can be a bittersweet moment, but hear me out. Autumn is just around the corner. I don’t know about you, but autumn is my favorite season of the year for so many reasons. Don’t worry, I’ll spare you my basic, white girl bit on my love for this season.

4| #GoalDigger

Maybe it has to do with back-to-school season, but I find that I am big on setting goals during this month, and I find that I accomplish so much during this month as well as September. I’m working on an extensive list of work, personal, health and financial goals for the next few months.

5| Getting Organized

For those who don’t know, I’ve been getting rid of things like it’s a full-time job. I’ve been taking time each week to go through and edit my closet more and more to reflect my personal style. Needless to say, I’ve been incredibly successful and I love the progress I’ve made.

6| Appreciating the Weather

Josh and I have been running twice a week outside in a local park two miles from our house. We typically go for 45 minutes, and finish off stretching in our glorious air-conditioned home. We’re making the most of the sunshine because the cold weather will be here before we know it.

7| Lazy Days

If I’m not working on a Saturday or Sunday, I’ll take my time in the morning to relax, read, blog, and sit outside to enjoy the quiet. I’ll go for a walk, clean, cook, but enjoy the day without rushing. Lazy summer days are so enjoyable, and I’ll make the most of them this month.

8| All the Fruit

I don’t know what it is about this month, but I feel like fruit become the main type of food I’ll eat each day. I will admit I’m pretty fruit crazy all year long, but this month especially is when I’ll take advantage of fruit stands and open markets.

9| Me Time

I always try to practice self care regardless of what month or season it is, but I find that it’s much easier to have “me” time during this month. In some ways, August is a relaxing, peaceful month because it’s the calm before the storm with back to school and before the holidays.

10| Going out of my Comfort Zone

This can mean anything from taking a new fitness class or trying a new restaurant in a different part of town. I’m more open to exploring or trying different things in life. I love having spurts of spontaneity because I always take time to go out of my comfort zone and try new things.

10 Things to be Happy About: July Edition

1| Fourth of July

Fourth of July holds a special place in my heart because growing up we would spend a week at my cottage and hold a huge fourth of July party. So, I have a special love and appreciation for this day even though we didn’t go to my cottage for the day, but Josh and I celebrated all weekend long with friends and family.

2| Ice cream Day

No one can hate this day. On July 17th, make sure you head over to your favorite ice cream shop for your dose of ice cream. I won’t lie, I used to not be a huge fan of ice cream compared to other dessert options, but now it’s one of my go-to picks, especially in summer. July is the perfect month of have all the ice cream (even if it’s not on the 17th!)

3| Beach Days

I wish I could go back to high school where my friends and I could just pick a day, and spend the day at the beach. Honestly, there’s nothing better that getting your mind off of all your problems and relaxing at the beach. Between my cottage and living near the lake all my life, I love and appreciate the beach during the hottest days of this month.

4| Summer Bucket Lists

Some people may not agree with me, but I love having bucket lists for each season. Let’s be real—time goes by so fast! And it seems to go by faster as the years go on. So why not make it your mission to all the things you love and want to accomplish during a particular time of year? You only have a few months to enjoy bonfires, watching sunsets on the beach, etc.

5| Road Trips

If there’s any time to take a road trip with your best friends or significant other, it’s during summer! Take a spontaneous day trip somewhere within two or three hours from you and go exploring. Josh and I are planning to take a weekend getaway to Pittsburgh for a Pirates game and a weekend away to be with friends. Even if it’s a short trip, it’s always fun to go somewhere new.

6| Smores-Flavored Everything

Unpopular opinion about to come your way, but I absolutely love that July is a month where there are smores-flavored ice cream, Oreos, Starbucks Frappachinos, and so much more. The options are endless when it comes to this and I love it. I grew up loving smores and having them around a campfire.

7| Being Outside

It’s the little things in life. For me, I love that we can do simple, everyday things outside during summer. Whether it’s reading a book or magazine or relaxing and enjoying the sun, there’s something great about getting outside more during this month. So take full advantage of it while you can!

8| Summer Fairs/Carnivals

July is the beginning of different fairs and carnivals. Although I’m not a huge fan of rides, I love the food, music, games and unique shopping of craft and art fairs or carnivals. Some people don’t enjoy fairs or carnivals, but when you go to the right ones, you will have a good time. I promise!

9| National Cheesecake Day

I’m here for the cheesecake, guys. Hit up your local Cheesecake Factory on July 30th because there’s nothing better than giving yourself a reason to have some of this amazing dessert—especially when it’s a decadent cheesecake like the work of art from Cheesecake Factory. Trust me, you won’t regret treating yourself on this day.

10| Feeling Childish

I feel like we can get away with reverting to our childhoods from camping, bonfires, blowing bubbles, pool days, etc. Summer is a time to play and enjoy each and every day you have. Sometimes, it’s good to take a break from adult life and have a day where you do the things you loved to do growing up. Take a day where you can have fun, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
