5 Looks I’m Lusting For: August

Posted in Fashion
on August 7, 2017

It has been a minute since I’ve done a five looks I’m lusting for post, and I knew August would be the perfect month to bring those back on the blog. After a month of self-care content and how to achieve your goals with vision boards, I want to keep August fun and fresh!

Make sure to share in the comment what summer trends you’ve been loving so far, or if you’re more excited for fall fashion coming up here in the next few months?! Also, if you were one of the MILLIONS of bloggers who talked about the Nordstrom sale, be sure to let me know what items you picked up that you would recommend to a friend.

Over-sized tops like this have been a staple for me all summer long, and I don’t think August will be any different! I love that you can easily wear this to work, but you can also style this casually with denim or shorts. I’m also loving the statement earrings that have been everywhere this summer, but I haven’t taken the plunge to buy them myself.

Cold-shoulder tops + chunky, strap sandals = the perfect outfit combination for August. I have also been loving the knotted-top trend that I’ve been seeing all over in stores and with other bloggers recently. It’s a simple detail that can transform a plain T-Shirt. I need more cold-shoulder tops in my closet because pretty soon I’ll be busting out my fall sweaters, and will have to say goodbye to my summer clothes for the season.

Ruffle sleeves and bold, embroidered patterns have been catching my eye all summer long. This dress is slaying the summer trend game with the off-the-shoulder trend, floral embroidered trend and ruffled sleeve trend. At first, I wasn’t sure how much I would like this, but after seeing it more and more, I’m definitely loving it for the end of summer. This dress instantly makes me want to take a vacation to the Caribbean, and makes me wish summer would never end. What are your thoughts on ruffled sleeves and bold embroidered patterns?

These romper dresses are EVERYWHERE and I’m not mad about it. Although I don’t think I could ever pull off this outfit, I love seeing other bloggers and influencers style it. The outfit is partly casual because of the romper, but the long “dress” in the back would make me feel like a movie star. Am I the only one who feels this way? Have you tried on one of these yet? TBH they seem rather intimidating, so I haven’t, but I’m starting to think I need to try one before summer’s over! So if you have any store recommendations, leave a comment below!

You know how I’m always throwing in a wild card outfit for these posts? Well, here’s my August wild card. You all know I love my white T-Shirts and cute booties, but that pinafore is quite overwhelming for me. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the detail and that it’s denim, but I don’t think it would be anything I could pull off. It also takes me back to the 90s when I owned one pair of overalls that made me feel so cool. Do you own overalls? Are you liking that this trend is coming back? Let me know in the comments.

What trends and styles have you been loving this month? What are your thoughts on the trends I’ve shared today!? Make sure to share links for what you’ve been loving in the comments below!

4 Tips to Help Stop Unnecessary Shopping

Posted in Fashion, Lifestyle
on March 29, 2017

We’ve all been there when we are excited about tax returns and feel that spending money to #treatyoself is completely justifiable. TBH, I’m all for treating yourself if you’ve been working hard achieving all your girl boss goals and saving money to buy something you wouldn’t normally spend money on otherwise.

But, what isn’t justifiable is dropping hundreds of dollars every few months on clothes, shoes, and everything in between that you truly don’t need or love.

I can relate in some ways because I loved having things. I loved having things even if I didn’t love that particular item. A pair of shoes sat in my closet for two years because I didn’t love them. Even worse, I would still buy other shoes if they weren’t practical and if I didn’t love them. The stuff piled up.

Why do we buy things unnecessarily? There are a ton of incredible articles on this topic that could be an entire blog post in itself, but I’ll that’s a different story for a different day, y’all.

So, how did I stop shopping unnecessarily?

I changed my mindset. I had a little heart-to-heart with myself over a year ago when I decided to get rid of more than 60 percent of what I owed. Today, I want to share some of those mindsets and ideas I incorporated to my lifestyle and how it has helped me even more than a year later. If you’re looking to add a little bliss to your life, wallet and closet, keep on reading!

1| You can’t take it with you when you die

Okay, Kiara…we’re starting off a little morbid here. But when you think about it—it’s true! You can’t take anything with you when you die, so how important are those pair of shoes or that handbag you want to buy? This also applies with minimalism because there are so many things we have in our closets that we never use or wear. Instead of having those pieces collect dust, you can sell them or donate them so they can go to someone who will love them. You don’t need to buy another pair of jeans when you have 10 pairs in at home. Use what you have and use it as motivation to remove what you currently don’t use or love in your home.

2| The things you own don’t truly matter

Picture yourself when you’re 70 years old. Are you really going to think about all the fabulous clothes you bought (and most likely haven’t had for more than 40 years) or are you going to think back on the important things in life like your family, where you’ve traveled to, your career, and what you’ve done on earth? I promise you won’t remember a dress from your 20s. So when you’re out shopping, think about the simple questions first like: if you need it? Do you love it? Is it versatile? Is there anything similar to it that you already own? Etc. Then think about the actual wear you can get out of that item over the years. If it’s a classic blazer you know you’ll wear for 10 or more year, buy it. If it’s a trend that you think won’t last for more than a year, skip it. Remember that you’ll be spending a lot of money on clothes over the years, so everything you buy at this point in your life is temporary. It’s best to save or invest where you can.

3| SO. MUCH. WASTED. MONEY

Going off that last sentence…can we think about how much money we spend on clothes in our lifetime? I can’t even imagine that number, but I know that I want to decrease that number by the time I’m 80 years old. When you shop, think long term. Don’t want to buy something that you’ll only love for a year or two. Invest in pieces you can keep for 10 years or longer. There’s this idea we’ve learned that buying trends is normal and that fast-fashion is inevitable. But it doesn’t have to be. We can invest in high-quality items that we will wear and love for decades rather than spending $10 on a top that we will only wear once. I would rather spend $100 on the perfect LBD that I’ll wear for years than spend $10 on 10 dresses than I will only wear a handful of times. Think about the money and time you’ll save yourself when you stop shopping unnecessarily.

4| What can I do instead?

Instead of buying a pair of trendy shoes, what can you put that money toward? Whether it’s a house, travel, your child’s college fund, retirement plan, or an investment for your business—there are so many more important things you can do with your money than spend it on clothes, shoes, accessories, and ALL. THE. THINGS. You have goals you want to achieve and you have plans for yourself, so think long term about your money and what you’re spending it on. I don’t know about you, but there are a lot of things I want to do with my money rather than see it wasted on things I don’t love in my closet. Next time you’re out shopping, think about what you could do with that money instead down the road.

I hope this inspired you to think about your spending habits and how you stop unnecessary shopping! Make sure to leave a comment below on other tips that help you stop from spending money when you’re shopping! P.S. what’s something that you almost bought, but were happy you didn’t spend the money on?

5 Looks I’m Lusting For: March

Posted in Fashion
on March 8, 2017

It’s March & I’m so excited about it mostly because I’m ready for sunny days, bright colors and all the spring things. Today I’m sharing a little fashion inspiration to get you thinking about spring, too! Add a little bliss to your closet and check out these stunning looks I’ve been lusting over this month.

Pink Top

I’m loving everything about this look from the pastel pink top, to the high-waisted denim to this oversized bag perfect for any weekend getaway. If you’ve been around the blog for awhile, you’ll know I’m all about neutrals, but there’s something about this light pink color that makes me want to reinvent my closet and style altogether. And TBH, I need to find an off-the-shoulder top! Leave links to your favorite picks in the comments!

One of my favorite pieces from high school was a denim skirt. I honestly wore it to where it was falling apart after several good years of wearing it. Since then, I haven’t owned one, but it has been on my list since the button-up, denim skirts became popular over the last few years. My favorite part of this look is that you can throw any comfy, T-Shirt with it and you’re set for the day. I love how versatile a denim skirt is, and it’s on my wish list.

Moto Jacket

Is Brighton not the example of #OutfitGoals?! The moto jacket she’s wearing is  e v e r y t h i n g  I want and need in my life right now. The soft, blush blouse paired with the edgy jacket is the perfect balance of two contrasting styles. Needless to say, she is slaying in this outfit that is perfect for spring. Her look would be perfect as a transitional look as we move into warmer weather for the next few months.

Stripped Top

Slip-on shoes are everywhere and I don’t know why I don’t own a pair for myself yet. What is better than having a comfortable, trendy pair of shoes that can go with everything? Also, I am loving the stripped, button-down, off-the-shoulder top paired with this white denim. I’ve truly been loving this clean and simple look. I can’t wait to be able to wear tops without layering tons of sweaters and jackets to cover it up.

White Denim

White denim + ivory sweater + sandals + nude hate = perfect outfit situation. I love seeing the contact of the different hues of nude and brown paired with white and off-white colors. Honestly, playing with different shades of color like this is WAY out of my comfort zone. But you all know I love to throw in a look that is something I wouldn’t normally wear so that I can inspire myself to try different things!

What outfit was your favorite? What looks/trends have you been lusting for? Make sure to leave a comment below!

Redirecting the Focus of Blissfully Brunette

Posted in Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle
on January 9, 2017

2016 was an interesting year for my blog. I felt like it went through several periods where it was having an identity crisis. It kept me thinking that maybe I should change and redirect the focus of the content I share on my blog.

Naturally, when change like this presents itself—I ignore it completely. I try my best to remove it from my mind. Why? Because sometimes, I’m a little irrational. Sometimes, my anxiety can get the best of me and make me believe things that simply aren’t true.

Your readers don’t want a change, Kiara. They’ll stop reading if you change anything.

If you change your blog content, the last few years of blogging will have been a waste of time.

It took a lot of convincing before I felt comfortable with the idea of changing the type of content I want to share on my blog mostly because I still love beauty and fashion. I don’t want people to think that I don’t have a passion for those things anymore because that’s not true.

I don’t feel as proud of that content rather than when I’m sharing content related to living well, minimalism, decluttering, living your best life, and other lifestyle posts. Writing those posts bring me the most joy. They make me feel like I’m truly helping readers take control of their own lives and help them live a life a bliss. That’s the intention and goal I want to set out on my blog.

Will you still see beauty and fashion posts? Yes. But you won’t see them as often. When I do decide to share something beauty or fashion related, I want it to be meaningful and intentional. I want it to be a source of inspirational for my readers rather than something that feels like it’s lacking purpose.

My goal for my blog for 2017 is to truly focus on content and the direction of my blog. Yes, you will still see a mix of everything from lifestyle, beauty, and fashion—but you will also see more on minimalism, intention, simple living, living your best life, living a life of bliss and more.

I’m very excited for this journey with my blog, and I can’t wait to see what 2017 will have in store for Blissfully Brunette. Thank you for being supportive and wonderful readers.

Have you ever considered rebranding or redirecting the focus of your blog? How did you handle it? Are you still working on it? Make sure to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below!

New Year’s Eve Inspiration

Posted in Fashion
on December 30, 2016

With New Year’s Eve approaching this weekend, I thought it would be fun to share what trends and fashion items have been inspiring me recently for creating a fun  NYE look. Make sure to leave a comment below to tell me what your plans are for New Year’s Eve, and what you plan to wear!

1| Lace Dress, H&M, $60

There are two things that I have been loving so much throughout the later half of 2016: anything and everything in white and lace details. There’s something so feminine about both of these trends coming together in one dress. What I love about this dress from H&M is that it’s also affordable and can be worn throughout the seasons!

2| Ciate Nail Polish, Sephora, $8

Although I don’t have my nails done all the time, I do love to go all out and have them done for different holidays and occasions. I love the Ciate nail polishes because there are so many different glitter colors that are perfect for occasions like New Year’s Eve.

3| Blush Clutch, DSW, $20

The blush pink trend is something that I have been loving for winter. I know people might be thinking that it’s not a winter color, but there are ways to incorporate this color in your outfit without overdoing it. For example, pairing this clutch with an all-black outfit.

4| Gold Tank Top, Charlotte Russe, $25

I’m not going to lie, I have passed by my local Charlotte Russe shop and I’ve seen this top in the window of it for weeks. I think it’s the perfect going out top to pair with sleek, black pants for a night out for New Year’s Eve. What I love is that you can re-wear for work or school with a cardigan or blazer.

5| Velvet Pumps, DSW, $40

I have seen so many shows that are velvet; and it might inspire me to take the plunge on this trend. I love the hunter green, velvet heels to wear for winter and spring especially. The best part about having velvet shoes is that they’re the focal point of your outfit, so you can keep the rest of your look simple by wearing neutrals.

What are you planning to wear for New Year’s Eve? Do you have special plans or traditions for New Year’s Eve? Make sure to leave a comment below!
