5 Looks I’m Lusting For: December

Posted in Fashion

HOW IS DECEMBER ALMOST OVER?

Guys, the amount of denial I am in about how quickly 2017 has come and gone is unreal. There’s still so much I want to get done before we say goodbye to 2017, which you can read more about in next week’s post. But, until then, I wanted to share some fashion inspiration with you since we are getting closer to winter. We have already seen snow here in Pennsylvania, so I know that my mind is focused on layers, cute accessories, and all the cozy vibes.

Make sure you share what outfits you have been loving from Pinterest, or your own closet! I would love to have a little more style and fashion inspiration sent my way!

You know when an outfit has a perfect combination of cute and causal? That’s everything I love about this outfit here. I also love the mix of patterns and textures in the outfit, too. The gingham paired with plaid, and the textures of the scarf and hat that perfectly complement the coat and boots. And can we talk about how amazing this outfit is with practical, warm boots like this!? Everything about this outfits screams winter to me, and I’m loving it.

I want to know how I can wear skinny jeans, white sneakers, an oversized sweater, AND look as adorable like the girl does in this outfit. I’ve been struggling to find a button-down shirt to style under a larger sweater, but I feel like I can’t pull it off on my body type. If you have any recommendations on styling sweaters and button-down shirts, please leave a comment below. P.S. I desperately want a pom pom hate for winter, and I have no shame. Question: how do you feel about white sneakers? As much as I love them in outfits, I feel like I would never wear them because I wouldn’t want ot get them dirty!

You know those women who you can tell have it all together just by what they’re dressed like? That’s what I think whenever I see someone wearing a midi skirt and heels. This outfit SCREAMS Happy Holidays with the red and black plaid. I have been on the hunt for a plaid skirt for the holidays, and winter, but I haven’t had luck finding something modest enough for work. If you have seen anything online you’d think I would like, please drop the link in the comment below.

The combination of a classic, sophisticated outfit includes everything in this outfit: white, button-down shirt, dark denim, statement heels, and a classic coat. I love everything about this look because I love the preppy, clean look it gives. I feel like I could get away with wearing this in the office because of how professional and classic it looks. I also love that this has staples pieces like nude heels, a white blouse, and a coat. That makes it very easy to replicate, but you can also make it your own with your sense of style.

This is definitely a wild card outfit for me, and I’m all about sharing these types of looks because it inspires me to step out of my comfort zone more with my style. I would LOVE to be able to pull off something as bold as a fun, quirky sweater, and pair it with an even more bold pair of glitter/sparkly pants. This outfit is my inspiration for the perfect New Year’s Eve look because it’s festive, but you wouldn’t be freezing or uncomfortable like you would be in a dress all night long. Plus, who doesn’t want an excuse to be warm and comfy while you’re ringing in the new year?

What looks/styles have you been loving this month? What are you wearing for Christmas and for the New Year’s festivities?! Make sure to share everything in the comments below!

5 Trends I’ve Never Tried + Don’t Plan to Wear

Posted in Fashion
on October 11, 2017

There are so many trends that have come and gone over the years, and there are some trends that may last for a several seasons. After writing a post on the different shoe trends I’ve never tried, I thought it would be interesting to talk about other trends I’ve seen over the years that I’ve never tried regardless of popularity. It has been refreshing to see how minimalism plays a roll in my shopping habits because I don’t buy the latest trends as they come out. Instead, I work with what I have, and if I truly love something, I will buy it. Make sure to let me know what are some trends that you’ve never tried in the comments below!

1| Chokers

I really thought I was going to change my mind on this one because I LOVE how these look on other people. I have a cross necklace I wear every day, and I never take it off. So pairing anything with the necklace that isn’t rose gold doesn’t look right. So, I decided to give up on the idea of buying a choker for a trendy, fall outfit. I’ll leave this trend for the fashion bloggers on the Internet!

2| Bralettes

I would love to be able to pull this trend off, but I know it’s not happening. I’ve accepted it and plan to move on. You know you’re becoming an adult when you stop buying things that aren’t practical for you. Most bralettes aren’t comfortable or supportive enough, so I know it’s not the most practical thing to buy and wear. Instead of fighting it, I know it’s not something I’ll ever find in my closet, and I’m okay with it!

3| Kimonos

Yes, these were HUGE a few years ago, but I’m happy I didn’t jump on the trend because like most trends, they tend to fade out without a trace. Also, I don’t know how practical this would be in Western NY/PA where it’s below freezing for five months of the year. Again with making smart shopping purchases as an adult! If you know it doesn’t make sense for the region you live in, don’t buy it!

4| Overalls

Okay, I’m sure my mom put me in these when I was younger when I didn’t choose what I wore. Since then, I haven’t put on overalls, and I don’t plan to. Honestly, they wouldn’t flatter my figure, and I know I wouldn’t get use of of them like I would want. Nowadays, if I plan to buy something, I want to know that I’ll be able to wear it for work, errands, date night and every occasion in between. Overalls may be cute and trendy, but they are a trend I don’t plan to try.

5| Maxi Rompers

For two summers, I was all about rompers during my junior year of high school and my senior year of college. I wore the same few rompers over and over again without shame. But those rompers quickly faded, and I got rid of them all because I no longer wore them or loved them. This past summer, we were introduced to the maxi romper, which is combination of two trends I no longer have in my closet. So, this is something I don’t plan to wear anytime in the future because, like overalls, I don’t think I would get a lot of use out of it.

Have you tried any of these trends and love them? What trends haven’t your tried from this list, or any other trends you know you won’t be giving into anytime soon! Make sure to share everything in the comments below!

5 Looks I’m Lusting For: September

Posted in Fashion
on September 13, 2017

Is sweater weather really the best kind of weather? The answer is yes. Always yes to sweater weather.

I don’t know about you, but I am pumped for fall and all the cozy things in life. I’m ready for Bath and Body Works candles, the change in weather, sweaters, fall bucket lists (even though I don’t always get to do everything I want to on those lists). And, above all else, I’m ready for fall fashion, which is why I’m sharing five looks that are getting me so excited for the new season.

This sweater is what Autumn dreams are made of. I am on the hunt and I’m determined to find a long, open-front cardigan and I plan to wear every single day throughout the season. If you have any links from similar sweaters you own and love, PLEASE leave them in the comments below. My favorite thing about this type of cardigan is that it looks like a blanket, but you also look so dressed up!

Okay, I know we just got done talking about adorable, perfect sweaters, but hear me out on this one. I’m also loving how this looks so darn cute but she’s wearing a sweater, leggings and cute shoes. To be honest, I think it’s all about the neutrals. Nude is a color I’m lusting to own more of in my closet because I think it’s chic, classic and extremely versatile. If you have seen any nude sweaters, tops, etc., please share those with me as well!

I promise I’m not going to talk about the sweater because it’s evident that I’m in love with long, open-front cardigans and that isn’t going to end any time soon. So let’s move on to those adorable shoes. I’ve been loving loafers and masculine-style flats for fall. I’m sick of buying flats that are destroyed after a year because I wear them too much. I need shoes with a thick, durable sole and that will last with miles of walking. Make sure to send your recommendations my way!

You know those sweaters that you can wear with anything and everything? I feel like this sweater has tons of potential for versatility. I would love it casually with leggings or jeans, but I also feel like you can tuck it in to a skirt since it’s a thinner material. P.S. This is one of my favorite colors to wear during fall and winter. I never been an orange or red type of girl, so this is the perfect warm-tone color to get a small mix of both colors in there.

I always told myself that when I was older, I would wear cute heels all the time. Now, I’m more practical and I want shoes that are comfortable. But, I LOVE these shoes and how this entire look is pulled together with different shades of nude. I also love the sweater draped over the blouse. I’ve been only trying to achieve this exact look for years now, so if anyone has any tips on how to look cute and pull off this layered look, please let me know! P.S. that clutch is adorable and inspires me to carry less things so I can carry cute clutches, #amiright?

What looks have you been lusting for? What outfit is your favorite and most similar to your style? What are some fall trends you’re hoping to try this season?

5 Looks I’m Lusting For: August

Posted in Fashion
on August 7, 2017

It has been a minute since I’ve done a five looks I’m lusting for post, and I knew August would be the perfect month to bring those back on the blog. After a month of self-care content and how to achieve your goals with vision boards, I want to keep August fun and fresh!

Make sure to share in the comment what summer trends you’ve been loving so far, or if you’re more excited for fall fashion coming up here in the next few months?! Also, if you were one of the MILLIONS of bloggers who talked about the Nordstrom sale, be sure to let me know what items you picked up that you would recommend to a friend.

Over-sized tops like this have been a staple for me all summer long, and I don’t think August will be any different! I love that you can easily wear this to work, but you can also style this casually with denim or shorts. I’m also loving the statement earrings that have been everywhere this summer, but I haven’t taken the plunge to buy them myself.

Cold-shoulder tops + chunky, strap sandals = the perfect outfit combination for August. I have also been loving the knotted-top trend that I’ve been seeing all over in stores and with other bloggers recently. It’s a simple detail that can transform a plain T-Shirt. I need more cold-shoulder tops in my closet because pretty soon I’ll be busting out my fall sweaters, and will have to say goodbye to my summer clothes for the season.

Ruffle sleeves and bold, embroidered patterns have been catching my eye all summer long. This dress is slaying the summer trend game with the off-the-shoulder trend, floral embroidered trend and ruffled sleeve trend. At first, I wasn’t sure how much I would like this, but after seeing it more and more, I’m definitely loving it for the end of summer. This dress instantly makes me want to take a vacation to the Caribbean, and makes me wish summer would never end. What are your thoughts on ruffled sleeves and bold embroidered patterns?

These romper dresses are EVERYWHERE and I’m not mad about it. Although I don’t think I could ever pull off this outfit, I love seeing other bloggers and influencers style it. The outfit is partly casual because of the romper, but the long “dress” in the back would make me feel like a movie star. Am I the only one who feels this way? Have you tried on one of these yet? TBH they seem rather intimidating, so I haven’t, but I’m starting to think I need to try one before summer’s over! So if you have any store recommendations, leave a comment below!

You know how I’m always throwing in a wild card outfit for these posts? Well, here’s my August wild card. You all know I love my white T-Shirts and cute booties, but that pinafore is quite overwhelming for me. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the detail and that it’s denim, but I don’t think it would be anything I could pull off. It also takes me back to the 90s when I owned one pair of overalls that made me feel so cool. Do you own overalls? Are you liking that this trend is coming back? Let me know in the comments.

What trends and styles have you been loving this month? What are your thoughts on the trends I’ve shared today!? Make sure to share links for what you’ve been loving in the comments below!

4 Tips to Help Stop Unnecessary Shopping

Posted in Fashion, Lifestyle
on March 29, 2017

We’ve all been there when we are excited about tax returns and feel that spending money to #treatyoself is completely justifiable. TBH, I’m all for treating yourself if you’ve been working hard achieving all your girl boss goals and saving money to buy something you wouldn’t normally spend money on otherwise.

But, what isn’t justifiable is dropping hundreds of dollars every few months on clothes, shoes, and everything in between that you truly don’t need or love.

I can relate in some ways because I loved having things. I loved having things even if I didn’t love that particular item. A pair of shoes sat in my closet for two years because I didn’t love them. Even worse, I would still buy other shoes if they weren’t practical and if I didn’t love them. The stuff piled up.

Why do we buy things unnecessarily? There are a ton of incredible articles on this topic that could be an entire blog post in itself, but I’ll that’s a different story for a different day, y’all.

So, how did I stop shopping unnecessarily?

I changed my mindset. I had a little heart-to-heart with myself over a year ago when I decided to get rid of more than 60 percent of what I owed. Today, I want to share some of those mindsets and ideas I incorporated to my lifestyle and how it has helped me even more than a year later. If you’re looking to add a little bliss to your life, wallet and closet, keep on reading!

1| You can’t take it with you when you die

Okay, Kiara…we’re starting off a little morbid here. But when you think about it—it’s true! You can’t take anything with you when you die, so how important are those pair of shoes or that handbag you want to buy? This also applies with minimalism because there are so many things we have in our closets that we never use or wear. Instead of having those pieces collect dust, you can sell them or donate them so they can go to someone who will love them. You don’t need to buy another pair of jeans when you have 10 pairs in at home. Use what you have and use it as motivation to remove what you currently don’t use or love in your home.

2| The things you own don’t truly matter

Picture yourself when you’re 70 years old. Are you really going to think about all the fabulous clothes you bought (and most likely haven’t had for more than 40 years) or are you going to think back on the important things in life like your family, where you’ve traveled to, your career, and what you’ve done on earth? I promise you won’t remember a dress from your 20s. So when you’re out shopping, think about the simple questions first like: if you need it? Do you love it? Is it versatile? Is there anything similar to it that you already own? Etc. Then think about the actual wear you can get out of that item over the years. If it’s a classic blazer you know you’ll wear for 10 or more year, buy it. If it’s a trend that you think won’t last for more than a year, skip it. Remember that you’ll be spending a lot of money on clothes over the years, so everything you buy at this point in your life is temporary. It’s best to save or invest where you can.

3| SO. MUCH. WASTED. MONEY

Going off that last sentence…can we think about how much money we spend on clothes in our lifetime? I can’t even imagine that number, but I know that I want to decrease that number by the time I’m 80 years old. When you shop, think long term. Don’t want to buy something that you’ll only love for a year or two. Invest in pieces you can keep for 10 years or longer. There’s this idea we’ve learned that buying trends is normal and that fast-fashion is inevitable. But it doesn’t have to be. We can invest in high-quality items that we will wear and love for decades rather than spending $10 on a top that we will only wear once. I would rather spend $100 on the perfect LBD that I’ll wear for years than spend $10 on 10 dresses than I will only wear a handful of times. Think about the money and time you’ll save yourself when you stop shopping unnecessarily.

4| What can I do instead?

Instead of buying a pair of trendy shoes, what can you put that money toward? Whether it’s a house, travel, your child’s college fund, retirement plan, or an investment for your business—there are so many more important things you can do with your money than spend it on clothes, shoes, accessories, and ALL. THE. THINGS. You have goals you want to achieve and you have plans for yourself, so think long term about your money and what you’re spending it on. I don’t know about you, but there are a lot of things I want to do with my money rather than see it wasted on things I don’t love in my closet. Next time you’re out shopping, think about what you could do with that money instead down the road.

I hope this inspired you to think about your spending habits and how you stop unnecessary shopping! Make sure to leave a comment below on other tips that help you stop from spending money when you’re shopping! P.S. what’s something that you almost bought, but were happy you didn’t spend the money on?
