5 Looks I’m Lusting For: May

Posted in Fashion
on May 15, 2017

For awhile, I have been lacking some inspiration with my style over the last month. With the weather being in limbo from spring to an awkward fall season all in one month. Finally, that lack of inspiration has been fading and slowly, but surely, I have feeling my inspiration for fashion come back. As we move into warmer months and the end of spring, I’m falling in love with simple staple pieces like denim jeans, sandals, and fun tops!

Today, I’m sharing some looks I’m lusting for this month. A common theme I’ve noticed for the looks I’ve been inspired by are more casual and versatile. My style has evolved so much over the course of a year, and as I get older, I realize that comfortable is far more important to me than anything else! But let’s be real, who doesn’t want a stylish outfit that’s also comfortable enough to wear from 7 a.m. to 10 at night? Make sure to leave a comment below on what fashion looks you have been inspired by recently.

Wedges + Off-the-Shoulder Top + Denim = a perfect combination for a late spring/early summer outfit! Although I don’t any gingham-patterned clothing, there’s something I love about this look. It reminds me of a New England staple pattern everyone would have if I went to Rhode Island. Maybe that’s why I find it so inspiring—it’s out of my comfort zone in terms of what I would wear on a regular basis.

Dark denim has always been my favorite. I feel like it’s the closest item you can consider professional because they’re sleek and can easily be dressed up with the right pair of shoes and top. Speaking of tops, can we talk about the trends going on in this one? These bell sleeves, high collar and cut-out shoulders are everything I want and need in my closet. Paired with trendy, neutral shoes, and you’re ready for a date night or a night with friends!

Last summer, the pom pom detailing exploded in the fashion world. However, I wasn’t fully on board with this trend because it was EVERYWHERE: bags, dresses, shoes, earrings, scarves. If you would wear it in some form, they could put some pom poms on it. Needless to say, I didn’t think I was going to love this trend, but when it’s put together with the right items like simple shoes and limited accessories, they can make an outfit pop!

Remember what I said about being able to put poms poms on anything and everything? Well, they’re on a pair of shoes; and I think I’m in love with them! I also LOVE that low-heel, chunky sandals are popular for spring and summer this year. I’m all about comfortable shoes I can wear all day long. No one has time for shoes that make their feet hurt. I also love the detail in the sleeves on this smock dress. It is something you can easily wear as early as April and wear until late October because of its versatility (weather permitting, of course).

Another trend that I’ve been seeing so much of recently (and loving) is the ruffles trend. Now, don’t get me wrong, this isn’t necessarily my style anymore, however I’m still inspired by feminine, soft looks like the one above. The ruffles paired with the off-the-shoulder trend makes this top “America’s Most Wanted” for spring and summer. I also have been loving all the different looks I’ve been seeing with white denim, it motivates me and inspires me to take out my own pair and actually wear them!

Knit Top: Francesca’s

Jeggings: LOFT

Boots: Sorel

Bag: Michael Kors

Necklace: Windsor

Even though it’s tempting to sit inside and watch episodes on Netflix all weekend long, you can still appreciate date nights during winter. Here are a few suggestions when you’re looking for a date night idea!

One of my favorite date nights is simply going out for a movie, and grabbing a drink and splitting appetizers together after the movie. It gets you guys out of the house, but it won’t break the bank.

Another idea is to bundle up and go for a walk. Or you can pack goodies in your car, and drive to a scenic location for a winter picnic in the car. Taking time to appreciate nature in winter, and relaxing with someone you love is all you need for a successful winter date night.

Do you love winter activities? You can always take time to go ice skating, sledding or skiing as a group date! Make sure to bring extra hot chocolate and warm clothes for the day!

If you’re both hockey fans, you can support your hometown team at a hockey game. Even if you’re not a huge sports fan, hockey is easy to follow and will definitely get your adrenaline pumping.

There are many other winter date night opportunities. All it takes is a little motivation to move from your comfy couch!

OOTD For When You’re Running Late + Tips!

Posted in Fashion
on January 13, 2016

We’ve all been there. You press snooze one too many times in the morning, and now you’re running late. You’ll probably default to wearing workout clothes, or throwing on a comfy, but acceptable, sweater. Then you realize that you need to interact with people, run errands, work; so panic builds. You’ve set yourself up for a stressed day, and you haven’t left your room yet.

But it doesn’t have to be this way! I’m sharing my go-to outfit and tips for when you’re running late. You’ll add some bliss back to your morning knowing you can still look put together and catch a few extra ZZZs when you need to sleep.

The Outfit:

A Basic T-shirt: (similar from Skreened)

Whether you have a plain, white T-shirt, or a gray graphic T-shirt, these picks are essential on the days when you’re running late. You can easily dress up your shirt with some jewelry or other accessories if you’re feeling under dressed.

Blazer: Macy’s

Want to look adult-like in under five seconds? Throw on a blazer. Stick with black because if you have a last-minute meeting, you’ll look professional. No one will even know you woke up late this morning. Fake it till you make it!

Comfortable Denim: Old Navy

Instead of opting for leggings or dress pants, go for dark denim. The darker the denim, the more polished your look will be. However, make sure you pick a pair of jeans you’ll be comfortable in all day. The last thing you want to feel is uncomfortable when you’re already in a rush.

Cute Booties: Old Navy

I think booties are the perfect addition to any outfit if you want to look dressed up without even trying. These booties from Old Navy complete every look, and they’re comfortable. You’ll look chic and you won’t feel stressed about wearing heels all day.

Tips for when you’re running late!

Go neutral and simple:

Stick to whites, blacks and grays when you’re running late. Stray away from patterns and bold colors. You don’t want to mix together the wrong colors and prints together. The point is to make sure you look polished and put together. Not like a Vera Bradley-inspired hot mess.

Think casual, but put-together:

You don’t need to overdo it with skirts, tops and all the accessories. Remember to stock up on your basics in your closet: dark denim, plain T-shirts, and blazers, and you’re good to go. Don’t overthink it when you’re getting ready.

Have a plan:

I always carry a clutch or a small makeup bag to keep some running late essentials. Bobby pins, a perfume roller, lipstick and a granola bar are some must-have you’ll want to remember in your kit. Then, all you’ll have to focus on is getting to your destination on time.

Next time you’re running late, you’ll feel prepared to take on the day despite waking up late.

2015 Fashion Round-Up: 5 Favorite Outfits from 2015

Posted in Fashion
on January 6, 2016

After a year of taking some fashion risks, I thought it was appropriate to write a round-up of my top five favorite looks from 2015. Let’s take a trip down memory lane as we go through my personal countdown of my favorite outfits.

5. The Ruana Rave: October, 2015

I had to include this in my top five favorite looks because this was the year the ruana made its fashion debut to fashion lovers. I purchased this ruana from a boutique back in 2014, and I was so happy to see the plethora of ruanas available in 2015.

4. Bohemian Summer: August, 2015

I received this dress as a graduation/late birthday present, and I love it! It was a bit out of my fashion comfort zone, which is why I thought it was important to add in my top five favorite looks for 2015. I learned to appreciate simple, bohemian-inspired looks throughout summer.

3. Casual Chic: August, 2015

Back-to-school outfits are the highlight of summer. I always loved pairing new items with old to create different looks for the first few weeks of classes. Can we please take a moment to appreciate how cool those shoes are?

2. Lovely Layers: October, 2015

So many of my most worn pieces are included in this outfit: the black boots, blanket scarf, hat and leggings were all staples in my day-to-day fall fashion. I love the comfortable look of pairing layers and adding accessories to complete the look.

1. Prints and Patterns: October, 2015

This outfit was far away from my fashion comfort zone, and it was by far my favorite look from 2015. I really took a chance by creating this color combination on top of pairing the plaid and floral patterns together. I loved this look, and I hope to take more risks with fashion in 2016.

OOTD: Cozy & Chill

Shop The Look:

Plaid Shirt: Macy’s (currently on sale for $24.75)

Green Top: LOFT, $19.50

Leggings: Macy’s, $31.99

Boots: DSW, (similar for $79.95)

Bag: Michael Kors (similar for $135.45)

Sunglasses: Francesca’s (similar for $14)

I decided to create an outfit that looks put-together, but that’s cozy for the busy days of the season. Sometimes, you need to have an easy, go-to outfit that you can put together in five minutes before running errands. For me, that means leggings, plaid shirts and layers are a must.

With the holiday season upon us, I decided to bring out my inner Christmas geek by wearing red and green without overdoing it. You don’t need to wear ugly Christmas sweaters everyday from December 1st to December 25th to enjoy *sings* the most wonderful time of the year.

Whether you’re Christmas shopping or running errands on the weekends, you’ll feel cozy wearing a festive outfit to show off your Christmas pride!

Do you have a long to-do list for the holiday season? Have you started Christmas shopping yet? Make sure to leave a comment below!
