30 Day Challenge: 30 Days of Self Care

I’m hearing so many people talk about self care, and I absolutely LOVE it. That fact that we’re talking about something we all could use a little more of in our lives is incredible. Because it’s true, self care is important and making the time for self care in our lives is essential for living a blissful life.

I was inspired to create this challenge because although summer is viewed as a time to relax, it can also be a stressful season with weddings every weekend, work trips, events, parties, appointments, and everything in between that you truly don’t spend time to do things for yourself. I created this challenge to inspire YOU to take some time for yourself for 30 days in July, so you can feel all the bliss in your life.

This challenge is perfect if you want to:

1| Focus on self care.

2| Slow down and enjoy summer.

3| Put yourself first.

Make sure to follow along on Twitter so I can remind you of the daily challenge! Now let’s get into the challenges:

1| Take a 10 minute walk at work.

Take a break from work to get up and walk. You need a break from sitting all day.

2| Spend an hour reading your favorite book.

Escape your life and read about someone else’s.

3| Treat yourself to coffee from a local cafe.

Because coffee + a cute cafe = an awesome Instagram (and bliss).

4| Cook your favorite meal.

Take your time preparing your meal so you can actually enjoy it!

5| Make a DIY face mask and pamper yourself.

Pamper yourself on the cheap at home instead of that $70+ mani/pedi.

6| Go for a hike on a trail near your home.

Kick up those endorphins with a little workout and enjoy nature while you do it.

7| Journal for 20 minutes.

Write your problems, your to-do list..whatever it is—simply write.

8| Declutter your closet.

Because there are A LOT of things in there you don’t need or want. Trust me.

9| Do a random act of kindness.

Making someone happy will make YOU feel happy.

10| Try a new hobby and practice it during the challenge.

Try kickboxing, writing poems, painting, singing or playing an instrument. Whatever you want to do!

11| Call/ FaceTime a family member to catch up.

Sometimes all you need is a phone call to your mom or dad.

12| Plan a staycation in your town for a weekend.

Do the tourist things you would never do in your town. At least you can say you did it!

13| Turn off your phone for a night.

You’ll sleep SO much better, I promise!

14| Write 5 things you’re thankful for.

There’s always something to be thankful for.

15| Create a calming playlist and relax while you listen.

Even if you’re listening to soundscapes for three hours—you do you, girl.

16| Do yoga or Pilates for 30 minutes.

It’s challenging, but it’s worth it.

17| Plan a night out with friends.

Because friends are amazing and spending time with them will make you feel good.

18| Take a scenic drive.

Hop in line at Starbucks for an afternoon treat and take a drive to somewhere new.

19| Organize your digital life.

Waking up to 30 email ads is STRESSFUL. Unsubscribe, clear out the inbox and organize your laptop.

20| Write 5 things you love about yourself.

There are a million reasons, but stick to five for today <3

21| Treat yourself to your favorite dessert.

Realistically, you should be treating yourself to dessert every day…

22| Watch your favorite movie.

I know you can watch Pitch Perfect a million times, so go watch it!

23| Take a social media break.

BUT HOW?! Put your phone away and enjoy life…whatever it is you’re doing that day.

24| Meditate for 10 minutes.

Try guided meditation and focus on your breath. You will feel less stressed instantly.

25| Try an online class or webinar.

Instead of aimlessly scrolling on social media, spend an hour learning calligraphy, or anything else you want to learn.

26| Visit a chiropractor.

You WILL feel like a new human being. I swear.

27| Take a power nap.

Because naps. And Corrine said it’s okay.

28| Compliment a stranger.

As we’ve said before, doing something kind for someone else will make YOU feel good.

29| Two words: adult coloring.

Being an adult is hard. Coloring helps you forget about your adult issues.

30| Buy flowers and plants for your home and office.

Because plants give you life…literally. Having plants in your office can help with energy and your mood.

3 Reminders for Embracing Life’s Valleys

Life has peaks and valleys. There are times where we feel so high and on top of the world that we don’t ever want that feeling to stop, and there are times where life can have us feeling low and lost. There are many ways valleys can enter our lives that we have all experienced: rejection from a college, rejection from a promotion or job, or other unexpected changes that might interfere with previous plans (moving, changing jobs, beginning a relationship, etc.)

Some people see valleys as “bumps in the road” or a setback. While this is true, I think it negatively illustrates the value of valleys. I used to think a valley was the universe laughing at me struggling. Now, I view them more positively.

Yes, you may have gotten fired from your job; but you can use it as an opportunity to find a better job. Maybe one that pays more, or that offers more flexible hours, or where you can work from home. It’s still an opportunity.

You’ve plateaued after working hard for months on end to achieve your health and fitness goals. So what? Give yourself a week to relax and rest your body so it can work even harder. It’ll give you more motivation so you can get stronger. It’s an opportunity.

A few years ago, I experienced a “valley” when I applied to work at a local hospital. It was an opportunity I was excited about and had planned my entire summer around getting this job. Over a month past my “start date,” nothing progressed as far as paperwork or my medical clearance. Working at the hospital was my only plan for summer, and then I realized it wasn’t going to work out. I reached a valley I had no intention of being in.

Then I went through endless applications. I thought to myself, “I could go back to my old job.” But I didn’t enjoy my last job after four years. I decided to use this as a opportunity to find a job I loved. And I found it, and it paid far more than I intended. During the interview, they wanted to promote me to a higher paying position before I even began. It was a golden opportunity, and I said yes.

Fast forward a year later, and that same job lead me to my first, full-time marketing position that I’m currently working and loving today. I often think what would have happened if I ended up working at the hospital. Would I still be in a LDR with Josh? Would I have finished my Master’s? Who knows, but it’s incredible to think that begin rejected from something lead me to exactly where I needed to be. Every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being redirected to something better.

So how can YOU embrace your next valley?

1| Remember it’s temporary

If you’re going through a valley in your life, remember that your valley isn’t permanent. It won’t last forever. It’s a small stop along your journey, so treat it as such. Oftentimes, we get caught up with the negative moments in our lives that we don’t think about the positive things that could come from that experience.

2| There’s a bigger plan

You were rejected from your dream job that you’re more than qualified for. That’s horrible, and you’re probably feeling pretty sad about it, too. Take the time to go through the motions that come with rejection. But don’t let it keep you down. Remember that there’s a reason you weren’t hired for that job. You will be lead to the job you’re meant to work.

3| Opportunities are everywhere

Even in the midst of a valley and a negative situation, there is always room for opportunity.

But you have to remember to be open to the possibilities and the opportunities that could be presented to you in that season.

Think outside the box. Apply for something that is exciting and out of your comfort zone. You never know when an unexpected opportunity may present itself.

Even when we have reached a valley in life, it’s not necessarily negative. Sure, you might feel disappointed or confused on what your next step should be, but it’s easy to make a valley into a peak. All it takes is a little patience and time.

Have you experienced a “valley” in your life recently? How can you turn it into a peak? Make sure to share your stories and thoughts in the comments below!

8 Small Improvements to Live a Blissful Life

Whether you’re about to graduate college or you’re making a career change after 10 years in a field, we can all agree that we’re all striving to live a life of bliss. Regardless of what stage in life you’re at, it’s important to focus on living a healthy, happy life. Today I’m sharing eight small improvements that will help you live a more blissful life. If you’re into feel-good posts that will help you create your best life, keep reading!

1| Declutter your life

One of the best decisions I’ve made was to go through all of my possessions and declutter everything in my home from my closet to my car. If you’re looking for a decluttering challenge for beginners, I posted one on the blog earlier this year that will definitely help you begin this journey. Decluttering is essential for living a blissful life because it repairs the spaces in your home that cause the most stress. Whether it’s the junk drawer that’s always overflowing with miscellaneous items or your basement, if there’s a space that irritates you every day—it’s worth taking care of so you can feel calm and productive in your home.

2| Make time for family and friends every week

Surrounding yourself with people who you enjoy spending time with is the best kind of therapy. I LOVE Sundays because it means heading over to Josh’s parents house at 3 for an afternoon walk and enjoying family dinner; or when the girls from work get together for sushi Fridays. Regardless of how you incorporate time for friends and family, make sure to do it consistently. Being with people who lift you up will always be a positive source of love and encouragement. (AKA bliss, #amiright?)

3| Spend time outside

I feel like a broken record with this but I simply swear by it. I grew up next to a lake all my life and loved being by the water. Watching the sunset, or sitting outside on the patio for dinner are opportunities to get yourself immersed in nature even if it’s for a few minutes. Nature itself is a special form of therapy, so take time to sit outside on a nice day for lunch with your coworkers or take your reading outdoors on your porch for an hour. You’ll soon see the benefits of what spending more time outside will do.

4| Develop a solid morning and night routine

Begin the day right by removing this one habit from your morning routine, and focusing on developing a good routine that will help you enjoy your mornings, and will help you want to get up and be productive. Creating a morning routine that you love is important. For your night routine, make sure that you’re giving yourself time to prepare for the next day to remove any stress from your morning like making sure your meals are packed, your clothes are out, and your bag is at the door so there won’t be any room for problems. Beginning and ending your day stress free are essential for living a blissful life.

5| Do something active

I know. I know. You’re sick of everyone and everything telling you the importance of working out and you don’t want to run on a treadmill for an hour. Well, you don’t have to do that.  The important part of working out for healthy living is finding workouts that you actually enjoy. No one has time to do something they hate. I promise there is a workout out there for you that you will love. Be open to trying different classes at your gym or YouTube videos. The options are endless, so find something that works for you and your schedule. Working out will help remove any stress from your day and that itself is enough to incorporate this in your routine for blissful living.

6| Rethink your to-do list

To-do lists can be overwhelming on a Monday morning when we have 14 tasks to cross off before noon. They can be counterproductive when we are given last-minutes tasks and it pushes us off track for the day. Rethink how your to-do list is laid out by allowing yourself more flexibility with finishing tasks. If you have a report due at the end of the week that you’re working on, but your boss says, “I need a data analysis by the end of the day;” you need to reschedule your tasks to get that analysis done first. Instead of making a concrete list for the entire day filled with work from 9 to 5, leave blocks of time for wiggle room for last-minute requests or for overflow of work for enough time. Don’t stress, but make sure you give yourself the time and flexibility to get everything done. Always remember to take the day with one task at a time instead of worrying about the next project you have to think about. These reminders will make your office life blissful when you’re not stressing every hour of the day.

7| Schedule “me time”

You should ALWAYS treat yourself to self care and a little extra time for yourself. Why? Because we are living in a world where it’s becoming normal to work ourselves into the ground, and that’s not okay AND you won’t feel any sense of bliss in your life by doing that. Taking a break or time off from work, and scheduling time where you can do something you love is important whether it’s reading, working out, watching Netflix, or coloring. You’ll feel good knowing you’re giving yourself time to unwind and spend it doing something you enjoy.

8| Balance saying yes and no

I recently wrote about saying yes and taking risks on the blog, and it was a difficult post to share because I was reminded that I stopped taking risks and felt lost because of it. The truth is, it’s important to say no but it’s equally important to say yes when a good opportunity arises. It’s okay to be afraid, but you can’t say no ONLY because you’re afraid. Saying yes to an opportunity can bring you to a wonderful adventure, so don’t let fear control your decisions in life. This tip goes without saying that you’ll be gifted with nothing but bliss from incorporating this in your life.

What other improvements can you think of that help YOU live a blissful life? What tip from this list do you need to work on in your own life? Make sure to share in the comments below!

5 Reasons to Make Self Love a Priority

I. Love.Quotes. I was that girl in college who always had inspirational quotes on the walls of her dorm because she was that IN LOVE with quotes. I love learning inspirational messages, and dishing them out to friends and family where they’re struggling, or need a little pick-me-up pep talk. It’s not abnormal for me to search Pinterest for words of wisdom on a rainy evening. Recently, I was reminded of a quote, and it brought on a lot of emotions.

“If I asked you to name all the things you love, how long would it take for you to name yourself?”

It makes me teary-eyed to read those words and think that at one point in my life I would have said, “I don’t think I would name myself at all.”

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m the only person who thinks that.

Bottom line: you need to love yourself.

We live in a world where it can be very difficult to love ourselves. With unrealistic standards of beauty, unrealistic standards of happiness and the do-it-all mentality—loving ourselves can be stressful and complicated. We are constantly absorbing content where we see other bloggers and people that exude confidence and happiness. They’re always doing something spectacular, fun and Instagram-worthy. We see fitness accounts filled with inspiration that makes us hate the way we look. And these are only a few examples.

We need to stop comparing our lives to the Instagram of our favorite blogger. In reality, that person still struggles with things we know nothing about. Similar to how other people don’t know what our personal struggles are.

So why should you make self love a priority?

1| It’s necessary for your health

Not just your mental health, but also your physical and emotional health, too. Self love affects all these areas of your well-being, so it’s important to love yourself. When you drop negative self talk, you’ll be more positive and confident. This positive change will bring out healthy ways of living like working out regularly and taking care of yourself. Self love is a powerful thing.

2| You focus on the most important relationship

The most important relationship you’ll have in your life is the relationship you have with YOURSELF. You have to live with yourself until the day you die, so you need to love and appreciate that relationship. Self love will help you focus and learn more about yourself, what you need and what your goals and ambitions are. Journaling and having time alone to yourself is important.

3| It reflects positively in other relationships

Because you’ll have a positive, strong relationship with yourself, you’ll notice a huge, POSITIVE change in your relationships with other people. Your love, confidence and bliss will resonate with other people, and that will change their perception of you for the better. They will want to be around you more because you have a positive impact on them in your friendship/relationship, etc.

4| You’ll be blissful

More importantly, you should practice self love because it will truly make you blissful. When you stop the comparison game with everyone around you—you feel the weight of mountains lifted from your shoulders. Real talk: NOT loving yourself is exhausting because you’re constantly at war with yourself. Always tearing yourself down while lifting someone else up. That isn’t a healthy way to live.

5| It’s essential. Period.

We need to remember that we are not perfect, and we weren’t created to be perfect. We are constantly striving to achieve the “best” life. And while being ambitious is a positive quality, the pressure we put on ourselves is too much. Self love is essential because there are many times where we think perfection is the answer when perfection is the reason for destroying our love for ourselves.

Today I’m encouraging you to give yourself a compliment (or five) because you’re absolutely amazing and you deserve to think so! Let’s set aside our flaws and focus on our strengths. We have positive qualities we should love about ourselves. Now it’s time to love ourselves the way our friends and family love us.

What do you love about yourself? Go ahead, be confident and leave a comment with your favorite qualities about yourself! How do you practice self love?

Bad Day Essentials & 5 Reminders You NEED to Hear

We’ve all been there…

We have been having a stressful week (or month) where work has been piling up, you haven’t been able to take care of yourself, and you are ultimately not happy. One day, things seem to be going more wrong than right: you spilled your $6 Starbucks drink, you were late to a meeting, you forgot to submit a proposal to a client, etc. Things just don’t seem to be working out in your favor today.

When these days happen, it’s easy to let negativity take over and control the remainder of your day. But there are ways to turn a bad day around and get back in a better place. I’m sharing some of my bad day essentials and activities I like to do after a long, stressful day and how you can bring a little bliss back in your day to turn it around.

1| Journal, Adult Coloring Book, etc.

Tapping into that creative side might be the best things you can do to help relax and unwind from a bad day or stressful week. Whenever I need to take my mind off of something, I’ll blog if I’m feeling creative but I’ll also write in one of my journals or write for fun, or color. You can put away the bad for an hour and solely focus on creating.

2| Workout

There’s nothing better than getting an amazing workout in after a stressful day. I find that I reach all my PRs and feel the best after crushing a cardio workout, run a little longer, or do a few more reps of an ab workout. Not only does it help your physical and mental health, but it’s a positive way to release all that negative energy from the day.

3| All. The. Food.

Girl, if you had a bad day, don’t feel guilty about treating yourself to your favorite meal, dessert or snack. Buy your favorite sushi or visit that cupcake shop for your go-to treat. Treating yourself to something you love will instantly boost your mood and make you feel just a little better about the day you’ve been having.

4| “Feel Good” Things

After a bad day, it’s important to focus on the good things that you love. So now that you have your favorite food, now it’s time to watch your favorite movie, or spend a few hours reading that book you’ve been putting off for months. Spend time doing something you love and that you know will bring a little bliss to your life.

5| Pamper Essentials

Let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than treating yourself to anything pampering related. Make a last-minute appointment for a pedicure or manicure at your go-to salon. Or, if you’re on a budget, create a relaxing space in your bathroom for face masks, body scrubs and a long bath.

If you’re having a rough day or week or month, keep reading these five reminders I want you to hear to help you get through whatever bad you’re experiencing. Make sure to share some of your own positive reminders in the comments below that you tell yourself when you’re having a bad day.

1| Look for the positive in each day, even if some days you have to look a little harder.

2| Storms don’t last forever.

3| It’s a bad day, not a bad life.

4| When you can’t find the sunshine, be the sunshine.

5| The sun is a daily reminder that we can rise from the darkness. That we can shine our own light.

What are some of your bad day essentials? What activities do you do whenever you’ve had a bad day? What quotes do you remind yourself to stay positive? Make sure to share in the comments below!
