Bad Day Essentials & 5 Reminders You NEED to Hear

We’ve all been there…

We have been having a stressful week (or month) where work has been piling up, you haven’t been able to take care of yourself, and you are ultimately not happy. One day, things seem to be going more wrong than right: you spilled your $6 Starbucks drink, you were late to a meeting, you forgot to submit a proposal to a client, etc. Things just don’t seem to be working out in your favor today.

When these days happen, it’s easy to let negativity take over and control the remainder of your day. But there are ways to turn a bad day around and get back in a better place. I’m sharing some of my bad day essentials and activities I like to do after a long, stressful day and how you can bring a little bliss back in your day to turn it around.

1| Journal, Adult Coloring Book, etc.

Tapping into that creative side might be the best things you can do to help relax and unwind from a bad day or stressful week. Whenever I need to take my mind off of something, I’ll blog if I’m feeling creative but I’ll also write in one of my journals or write for fun, or color. You can put away the bad for an hour and solely focus on creating.

2| Workout

There’s nothing better than getting an amazing workout in after a stressful day. I find that I reach all my PRs and feel the best after crushing a cardio workout, run a little longer, or do a few more reps of an ab workout. Not only does it help your physical and mental health, but it’s a positive way to release all that negative energy from the day.

3| All. The. Food.

Girl, if you had a bad day, don’t feel guilty about treating yourself to your favorite meal, dessert or snack. Buy your favorite sushi or visit that cupcake shop for your go-to treat. Treating yourself to something you love will instantly boost your mood and make you feel just a little better about the day you’ve been having.

4| “Feel Good” Things

After a bad day, it’s important to focus on the good things that you love. So now that you have your favorite food, now it’s time to watch your favorite movie, or spend a few hours reading that book you’ve been putting off for months. Spend time doing something you love and that you know will bring a little bliss to your life.

5| Pamper Essentials

Let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than treating yourself to anything pampering related. Make a last-minute appointment for a pedicure or manicure at your go-to salon. Or, if you’re on a budget, create a relaxing space in your bathroom for face masks, body scrubs and a long bath.

If you’re having a rough day or week or month, keep reading these five reminders I want you to hear to help you get through whatever bad you’re experiencing. Make sure to share some of your own positive reminders in the comments below that you tell yourself when you’re having a bad day.

1| Look for the positive in each day, even if some days you have to look a little harder.

2| Storms don’t last forever.

3| It’s a bad day, not a bad life.

4| When you can’t find the sunshine, be the sunshine.

5| The sun is a daily reminder that we can rise from the darkness. That we can shine our own light.

What are some of your bad day essentials? What activities do you do whenever you’ve had a bad day? What quotes do you remind yourself to stay positive? Make sure to share in the comments below!

5 Things to be Happy About: April Edition

I’ve always been a little biased about April because it’s my birthday month, so naturally I love this month more than some others. Raise your hand if your birthday month is April!? There is a lot that I am especially looking forward to this month, so I’m not too sure how I’m going to keep it to five things, but we’re going to try!

1| Travel

I find that I get to travel in April and May whether it’s for my birthday or I’m able to take time off from work because it’s not the busy season for us yet. This month, I’m going to Boston for a week for the first time with Josh, and we are both so excited to take time off from work and get a chance to explore a new city. We have been trying to schedule one city trip a year so we can explore new places every year. Needless to say, there will be some exciting travel-related content coming your way on the blog!

2| Treat Yourself

It might have to do with this month being my birthday month and the Easter season, but I find that I’m always more comfortable to treating myself to anything whether it’s dessert, wine, or an experience (like a trip to a new city)! After the holidays, I get pretty strict about eating healthy, working out and saving my money. After three months, I’m ready to give myself one (or several) treats!

3| Easter

Easter has always been a holiday I look forward to because it’s a time for family, food and it’s overall a relaxing and enjoyable day. We always celebrate the holiday at my parent’s house with a big brunch. We even still color eggs as a family and get chocolate treats from my mom! But hey, it’s a tradition my family has and loves, and it’s something I look forward to every April.

4| My Birthday

I’ll actually be in Boston on my birthday, so I think it’ll be a great way to ring in 23 years! Stay tuned for a post coming up soon on 23 lessons I’ve learned in 23 years. I think it’s something you’ll enjoy reading. When is your birthday month? Make sure to share in the comments below!

5| Spring Outfits

For those who don’t know, I’ve been ready for spring since January but the weather here in PA hasn’t been giving that to me. We had a snowstorm in the middle of March, and all I’ve been wanting is to have warm enough weather to wear spring dresses and outfits. I’m hoping April is when I can finally bust out my spring clothes since I haven’t been able to yet!

What are you looking forward to this month? Make sure to share in the comment below!

5 Benefits of Minimalism

There’s no doubt that minimalism has been a huge topic in 2016, and 2017 seems to be another year of the minimalism trend. Hopefully, this doesn’t remain a “trend,” but more of a conscious way of living for others. For me, since I’ve adopted more minimalist concepts into my life, I’ve noticed benefits that outweigh unnecessary shopping trips, etc. Make sure to leave a comment if you want to know my secrets on how I stopped unnecessary shopping!

Today I’m sharing five benefits of minimalism. Granted, there are many more than five, but these benefits are what I call, “undeniable benefits.” No matter how much you incorporate minimalism into your life, you are guaranteed to feel these benefits!

1| More Time

Let me break it down for you. The less you own in your home, the less you have to clean. The less you have to clean, the more time you have. See how that works? It’s not complicated! Instead of dusting off five extra pieces of furniture that you don’t use or love, you could sell those items, free up more space, and free up your time! Plus if you’re selling your items that you don’t love, you can make a little money through the process.

2| I Appreciate What I Own (Even More)

Before I decided to take on this lifestyle, I had so many things that I didn’t love in my life (mostly clothing). Because of this, I didn’t appreciate the possessions I owned. Now that I decluttered my home, and drastically downsized my closet, I have a deeper appreciation for all the items in my own. Everything I own, I love. That has helped me so much in this journey.

3| More Money

With pursuing minimalism means that you become a more conscious shopper. I haven’t purchased anything that’s non-essential for the last few months, and that has been a wonderful feeling for my wallet. You won’t believe how much money you save by cutting back on what you own because then you’re more aware of your shopping habits. This means more money for travel, or saving of a different purchase!

4| Your Home Is Precious

Be a ruthless editor of what you bring into your home. The less you own the less than owns you. When you decide to take on this lifestyle, your home becomes a personal sanctuary. It becomes your peaceful place. It is a place that you find the most joy because there’s no clutter or excess items to distract you. It is only filled with items you love. That is how every home should feel, but that isn’t always the case until you decide to pursue minimalism,

5| Strong Focus

Without clutter and items distracting you, you have more time and energy to focus on what you truly want to accomplish with your life. You have more clarity in your life to ask yourself, “What do I want to achieve?” “What brings me the most bliss?” With less stuff, you have more space in your mind for achieving all your #GirlBoss Goals! Minimalism helps your clarity and helps you remove any mental clutter in your mind that could be affecting you from accomplishing what you truly wish to do.

What are other benefits of minimalism have you noticed in your lifestyle? What benefits have I missed? Make sure to leave a comment below!

5 Looks I’m Lusting For: March

It’s March & I’m so excited about it mostly because I’m ready for sunny days, bright colors and all the spring things. Today I’m sharing a little fashion inspiration to get you thinking about spring, too! Add a little bliss to your closet and check out these stunning looks I’ve been lusting over this month.

Pink Top

I’m loving everything about this look from the pastel pink top, to the high-waisted denim to this oversized bag perfect for any weekend getaway. If you’ve been around the blog for awhile, you’ll know I’m all about neutrals, but there’s something about this light pink color that makes me want to reinvent my closet and style altogether. And TBH, I need to find an off-the-shoulder top! Leave links to your favorite picks in the comments!

One of my favorite pieces from high school was a denim skirt. I honestly wore it to where it was falling apart after several good years of wearing it. Since then, I haven’t owned one, but it has been on my list since the button-up, denim skirts became popular over the last few years. My favorite part of this look is that you can throw any comfy, T-Shirt with it and you’re set for the day. I love how versatile a denim skirt is, and it’s on my wish list.

Moto Jacket

Is Brighton not the example of #OutfitGoals?! The moto jacket she’s wearing is  e v e r y t h i n g  I want and need in my life right now. The soft, blush blouse paired with the edgy jacket is the perfect balance of two contrasting styles. Needless to say, she is slaying in this outfit that is perfect for spring. Her look would be perfect as a transitional look as we move into warmer weather for the next few months.

Stripped Top

Slip-on shoes are everywhere and I don’t know why I don’t own a pair for myself yet. What is better than having a comfortable, trendy pair of shoes that can go with everything? Also, I am loving the stripped, button-down, off-the-shoulder top paired with this white denim. I’ve truly been loving this clean and simple look. I can’t wait to be able to wear tops without layering tons of sweaters and jackets to cover it up.

White Denim

White denim + ivory sweater + sandals + nude hate = perfect outfit situation. I love seeing the contact of the different hues of nude and brown paired with white and off-white colors. Honestly, playing with different shades of color like this is WAY out of my comfort zone. But you all know I love to throw in a look that is something I wouldn’t normally wear so that I can inspire myself to try different things!
