5 Things to be Happy About: October

Posted in Lifestyle
on September 27, 2017

Goodbye September + Hello October

I think I say this way more than I should, but I love fall. I love the season so much that I wish it could last a little longer, so we have more time to enjoy it before the holidays roll around. September was another month filled with work, blogging, wedding planning and other fun things. And I’m ready for a new month, with a new gratitude post on what I’m looking forward to.

1| Popcorn + Movies

Doesn’t October put anyone in a movie marathon mood? Whenever this month rolls around, I’m pumped about watching the Halloweentown movies on repeat throughout the month because they are essential during fall. P.S. What’s your favorite Halloween movie? Even on Halloween, Josh and I relax at home and watch movies. (And eat something delicious, duh.) It’s a cozy way to enjoy time together.

2| Fall Bucket List

I think it’s horrible to say I’ve lived in the Northeastern United States, and I’ve never been apple picking. I’ve done a lot of other stereotypical fall things like mastering a corn maze, carving pumpkins, movie marathons, baking and cooking all the fall recipes saved to my Pinterest board, etc. But your girl needs to: go to a football game + tailgate, have a bonfire, go apple picking, and made a homemade apple pie. What are your favorite things to do in the fall? Do you do a fall bucket list each season?

3| Wedding Dress Shopping

I’m surprised to say Josh and I have checked off a lot on our wedding to-do list, which will be wonderful to not worry about planning anything during the holidays. This month, I have two appointments booked to go look at wedding dresses for the first time; and I couldn’t be more excited. Although it’s just under a year away, it’ll be nice to have most of the wedding planning done early, so we can enjoy being engaged and celebrate time together.

4| Fall Drinks

There are so many awesome cocktails and hot drinks you can enjoy during this season, and TBH I want to host parties all-month long so I can have an excuse to make all these delicious drinks. I personally want to try the apple pie cocktail or this sangria that I would have pitches of! Do you have any other drink recipes you want to share—leave a comment letting me know, so I can make more drinks this month.

5| Decluttering + Packing

There will be a post on this coming in the next few weeks giving you all the details.; but let’s just say I’ve been taking my decluttering skills to the next level, and I’m extremely happy about how this experience has helped me see what I truly need and don’t need. Minimalism is refreshing when it comes to realizing how much we own in comparison to what we actually use.

What are you happy about now that it’s October? Are you ready for decorating pumpkins, cider donuts, and all the fall things? Make sure to leave a comment below telling me what you’re excited about this month!

5 Things to be Happy About: September

Posted in Lifestyle
on September 4, 2017

Is it fall yet?

Kidding. Well sort of. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for the change in season. It’s something I look forward to every single year when summer comes to an end. Let me know what you’re looking forward to now that it’s September because I can tell you that I have a lot to be happy about

1| Goals on Goals

I have a lot of goals to finish out the remainder of the third quarter, and I’m determined to get things done. I’ve been able to get rid of more things from my closet, which I didn’t know was possible. And I’m learning more about appreciating the simple things that make life enjoyable. My goals may not necessarily be the standard or conventional goals I’ve shared, but I am excited to accomplish these goals this month.

2| Passion Projects

I’m finally working on some passion projects that have been manifesting in my mind and in my dreams for years. Although I can’t quite share these yet (stay tuned!) I am excited to dive in on projects that I love and truly enjoy. One of the amazing things about minimalism is that it allows me more time in my day to focus on what I’m passionate about. I cannot wait to share this passion with you all soon.

3| A Change in Season

Fall isn’t here, but it will be soon. I know there are so many bloggers out there who love fall, and you all know I’m right there with you. I think I feel more productive during this change in the year because I’m still in that back-to-school mindset even though I’m no loner a student. My productivity naturally spikes back in September.

4| My Vision Board Coming to Life

Did you happen to see what’s on my vision board for the next three years? Well, let’s just say that several of those things on my vision board will be happening within three months of me sharing my goals with you. Yes, really. I am incredibly thankful for all the blessings in my life, and being able to reach these goals was not planned for 2017. But I am a big believer in what’s meant to be, will be.

5| Slow Living

Life moves so quickly. And it’s very easy to get lost in the busyness of our day-to-day lives. This month, I plan to focus on the art of slow living. With a busy season at work ahead, I’m determined to focus on work-life balance and living more slowly. I’ll have more on this topic coming on the blog later this month, however if you have any posts or videos you love on this topic—please leave a link below!

What are you looking forward to this month? Make sure to share in the comments below!

Why You NEED to do Things That Scare You

Posted in Lifestyle
on August 16, 2017

I did something that scared me the other day.

I’m sitting in my room and shaking a little more than I should as I’m trying to give myself a pep talk. “Kiara, the video will only last for 24 hours. It’s NOT  a big deal,” I kept trying to  convince myself. But it WAS a big deal and it truly felt like a big deal in the moment. When you have anxiety, your mind can play a lot of tricks on you and make you believe things that aren’t true. Your mind is clouded with negative thoughts and it prevents you from stepping outside of your comfort zone.

But I didn’t want my mind to control the things I want to do, so I made several videos on Instagram Stories, and I was proud of myself.

I’m sure you’re thinking, “Kiara, you’re a blogger and you LOVE talking. How could you be afraid to make a video?”

Well, it had nothing to do with making the video at all or talking because you’re right…I could talk for hours about anything and everything. (Just ask ANYONE who knows me.) The truth is, I let fear hold me back from doing something I wanted to do. I realized that I didn’t want to live that way anymore. So, I took a deep breath and began recording and posting. The sky didn’t fall and there were no horrible comments made. It was refreshing. I did something despite feeling afraid.

Why you NEED to do things that scare you:

1| You may discover a new passion

If you read the last post in my vision board series, I share a HUGE goal I hope to achieve in the next three years. For me, that’s sharing more video content and beginning a YouTube channel. TBH I’ve always been passionate about creating videos, but I’ve been TERRIFIED to even make one because I feared the negativity from it. But I’ve learned that you will never know if you don’t try. Making the Instagram Stories videos solidified that I want to make more videos whether it’s on Instagram, for my blog, or for YouTube.

2| You gain confidence

I can’t tell how good it felt to do something I was afraid to do. To put it simply, you gain confidence when you do things that scare you. At one point in time, you thought you couldn’t do something—and then you prove yourself wrong! Let’s just say it’s such a wonderful feeling, and it’s worth the few seconds of fear you may have in the beginning.

3| You grow & gain a new perspective

Think about how much fear actually controls us. It’s the reason we don’t do SO MANY THINGS in life. You’re afraid of skydiving because you’re afraid of heights, but the second you begin falling—those fears go away. The highest point of fear is the second before you jump from the plane. Think of all the things you can learn and experience from removing fear from your life. By removing fear, you will naturally grow as a person and gain new perspectives.

4| You feel BLISSFUL

Point blank, PERIOD. You feel unbelievably blissful when you overcome a fear regardless of what that fear is. If you’re afraid to begin writing a book, start doing it anyway! The more you practice and work at that passion, the more you can feel confident (see point 1) and eventually publish that book despite the fear. Once you get over that initial feeling of fear, you can do anything and everything you want to do.

And that is the most blissful thing about doing something that scares you.

What is something YOU’RE afraid of but you WANT to do anyway? What fear have you conquered recently? Make sure to share your stories and thoughts in the comments below!

5 Things to be Happy About: August

Posted in Lifestyle
on August 2, 2017

Hey, July. You were the best month to date this year.

And no, I’m not only saying that because I got engaged. But, I will say that was a HUGE part of it! Today I’m sharing all the wonderful things I’m looking forward to this month, and I would love to know what you’re excited about now that it’s August! Make sure to leave your plans in the comments below!

1| Wedding Planning

So, if you didn’t hear the news on Instagram or Twitter, your girl got engaged! It has been crazy the last few weeks and I’ve been taking every moment in as we begin this new chapter in our lives. If you want to hear more about how my fiancé (still weird to say) proposed, leave a comment below, and I’ll share all the details and photos in a post!

2| AuGUEST

Who doesn’t love a good pun, #amiright?! So, I’ve been making a ton of plans in August to visit with family and friends that I’ve literally claimed the month of August to be AuGUEST. I’m so excited to see friends and family members in our home here in PA, especially with the recent engagement—there will be so much to celebrate and enjoy this month.

3| Focus on Fitness

Because #WeddingBod, right? I don’t believe in going overboard with not eating and working out seven days a week just to fit in a dress for a day. That’s not me and everyone knows it. I am passionate about healthy living and working out consistently, but I have been falling off track because of celebrating the engagement. So, it’s time to get back to where I was at a month ago. Do you have any workouts you’ve been loving on YouTube? Make sure to send them my way!

4| BRUNO MARS Concert

Because of all the excitement of getting engaged, I completely forgot about going to see BRUNO MARS this month! If you know anything about me, you know that I’ve been loving him since the beginning and his new album is FIRE. So I cannot wait to dance all night long without a care in the world! Have you been to any concerts recently? Which ones have you been loving or looking forward to?

5| Enjoying engagement

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the hustle and stress of wedding planning because there are so many expectations and Pinterest-worthy pins your friends and family are sharing. But, I’m simply looking forward to being engaged to my incredible fiancé and enjoying every moment of planning our wedding together.

So tell me, what are you happy about now that it’s August? What plans do you have this month that you’re excited about? Make sure to share in the comments below!

Self-Care Challenge: Week 4

Posted in Health, Lifestyle
on July 28, 2017

I feel like this month has been flying by! I can’t believe this is the last week (with the exception of the weekend) for our 30-day self care challenge. If you haven’t been keeping up with the last few posts, make sure you check them out: week one self care challenges, week two self care challenges, week three self care challenges.

Week Four Challenges:

Watch your favorite movie.

I have too many favorites, but I decided on Pitch Perfect because you can’t go wrong with singing and Anna Kendrick. Right? What is your favorite movies or top five list of favorite movies?

Take a social media break.

It was a perfect day to take time away from social media because I had everything scheduled in advance, so I wasn’t even worried about posting to different platforms. It’s amazing what this little break can do for your well-being. I was able to focus on enjoying the day rather than aimlessly scroll on social media!

Meditate for 10 minutes.

I’m a person who meditates so much better when I’m listening to soundscapes like summer thunderstorms. It definitely helps me relax a lot easier and enjoy the time in peace. Do you meditate? Do you listen to guided meditations or have any apps you use? Make sure to share in the comments!

Try an online class or webinar.

I’ve been taking so many online classes, courses and webinars for all things, blogging, social media, etc., and this one was no different. I decided to focus more on YouTube, and I can’t express how much I learned. P.S. this might be a hint of something coming to Blissfully Brunette soon!

Visit a chiropractor.

My chiropractor is incredible. It’s amazing what one little adjustment can do for my neck. If you struggle with neck and back pain, I would definitely recommend it because it will change your life. I promise.

Take a power nap.

This was after a LONG week and even a longer weekend ahead, so this nap was so well deserved. If Corrine says we should take naps, then we should take naps. Side note: Are you watching the Bachelorette? Who do you think will win?

Compliment a stranger.

It’s incredible to see how taking the time to compliment someone can make their day, especially when they’re a stranger. Take the time to spread some love and kindness by complimenting that girl at work or someone at the bar.

Week Five Challenges:

Two words: adult coloring.

Buy flowers and plants for your home and office.

What tasks did you enjoy the most from week four? Which tasks were the most difficult? Make sure to share your experiences in the comments below!
