OOTD For When You’re Running Late + Tips!

BB11316-3

We’ve all been there. You press snooze one too many times in the morning, and now you’re running late. You’ll probably default to wearing workout clothes, or throwing on a comfy, but acceptable, sweater. Then you realize that you need to interact with people, run errands, work; so panic builds. You’ve set yourself up for a stressed day, and you haven’t left your room yet.

But it doesn’t have to be this way! I’m sharing my go-to outfit and tips for when you’re running late. You’ll add some bliss back to your morning knowing you can still look put together and catch a few extra ZZZs when you need to sleep.

The Outfit:

A Basic T-shirt: (similar from Skreened)

Whether you have a plain, white T-shirt, or a gray graphic T-shirt, these picks are essential on the days when you’re running late. You can easily dress up your shirt with some jewelry or other accessories if you’re feeling under dressed.

Blazer: Macy’s

Want to look adult-like in under five seconds? Throw on a blazer. Stick with black because if you have a last-minute meeting, you’ll look professional. No one will even know you woke up late this morning. Fake it till you make it!

Comfortable Denim: Old Navy

Instead of opting for leggings or dress pants, go for dark denim. The darker the denim, the more polished your look will be. However, make sure you pick a pair of jeans you’ll be comfortable in all day. The last thing you want to feel is uncomfortable when you’re already in a rush.

Cute Booties: Old Navy

I think booties are the perfect addition to any outfit if you want to look dressed up without even trying. These booties from Old Navy complete every look, and they’re comfortable. You’ll look chic and you won’t feel stressed about wearing heels all day.

Tips for when you’re running late!

Go neutral and simple:

Stick to whites, blacks and grays when you’re running late. Stray away from patterns and bold colors. You don’t want to mix together the wrong colors and prints together. The point is to make sure you look polished and put together. Not like a Vera Bradley-inspired hot mess.

Think casual, but put-together:

You don’t need to overdo it with skirts, tops and all the accessories. Remember to stock up on your basics in your closet: dark denim, plain T-shirts, and blazers, and you’re good to go. Don’t overthink it when you’re getting ready.

Have a plan:

I always carry a clutch or a small makeup bag to keep some running late essentials. Bobby pins, a perfume roller, lipstick and a granola bar are some must-have you’ll want to remember in your kit. Then, all you’ll have to focus on is getting to your destination on time.

Next time you’re running late, you’ll feel prepared to take on the day despite waking up late.

I completely agree! Basics are essential for me when I’m running late, and I’m all stressed out in the morning!

  • Great tips! I’m a basics type of girl everyday!

    • kiaracatanzaro@gmail.com

I think I’ve been loving basics a lot more because those are the outfits I receive the most compliments on! Thanks for your comment 🙂

  • Love this running late look! Love the jeans and shoes!

    • kiaracatanzaro@gmail.com

Thank you so much! I wear these booties so much it’s crazy, but they’re incredibly comfortable 🙂

  • I love the idea of having a running late bag! I’m often running late, so this is something I should have so that I can take it and go. I always put my clothes out the night before since I do tend to run late so that I don’t have to think about what to wear. 🙂

    • kiaracatanzaro@gmail.com

That’s even better! I love planning my outfits in advanced, but some mornings…I get far too lazy, haha! I definitely recommend having a bag becausr then you won’t have to worry about anything after you’ve finishied getting ready!

  • So true… I’m always running late lol

  • Dia

Great tips and cute outfit. I can only weae jeans on Friday at my office but luckily I’m a dress girl so if I over sleep I just throw one over my head lol

    • kiaracatanzaro@gmail.com

I wish I could be a dress girl more often. It’s hard to be motivated with wearing nice clothes during winter and it’d 20 degrees! Haha.

    • So lucky! I wish I had the willpower to wear dresses more. it’s difficult when it’s 20 degrees out, haha.

  • Love this simple combo – I do tee + cardigan all the time, but I need to mix it up with a blazer some.

    • kiaracatanzaro@gmail.com

Cardigans are always a good default, too! I think adding a blazer makes me look like i have my life together! haha

    • Thanks so much! I think blazers give a nice, tailored look. Cardigans are awesome because they’re incredibly comfortable, but if you need to look polished in a pinch–blazers all the way!

  • Amanda Ryan

Great ideas. I usually have go-to outfit staples I wear when in a rush.

      Thanks so much!

    • It’s good to know what your outfit staples are! Before, I didn’t even know what I considered a “staple” in my wardrobe, which is why running late would leave me so stressed! Now that I have it all together, mornings a lot easier!

  • Karin Rambo

This is pretty much my go to outfit except I swap out the blazer with a cardigan. Easy!

    • kiaracatanzaro@gmail.com

I feel like so many people have been saying that! Maybe I need to mix it up with more cardigans, too!

    • Cardigans are also a great go-to pick as well if you’re running late!

  • I love this idea – especially because I love sleeping as much as I hate getting up in the morning 😉 I’ve never been brave enough to try a blazer, but maybe some day I’ll make the leap! Love this look 🙂

    • kiaracatanzaro@gmail.com

I felt the same way about trying a blazer for the first time! I thought I would look awkward wearing one. Turns out, when you dress down your blazer with some jeans and a T-shirt, it’s not so bad 🙂

    • I feel like we all love to sleep in! I felt the same way about blazers before I tried one (I thought I would look like I was trying too hard.) Turns out, if you dress it down a little, they’re very versatile and flattering!

  • Frolic_Life_Syl

Great tips! I need to invest in more blazers. I overslept this morning and I was super stressed about finding something to wear, so this post is so on topic.

    • kiaracatanzaro@gmail.com

I feel like these morning happen a lot more than we think! You can definitely find some cute, inexpensive blazers as well! Don’t feel like you need to drop a ton of money on one piece 🙂

    • I love blazers! You can find some cute, affordable ones as well from Target! Don’t feel like you need to overspend on one item! I’m all about budget-friendly shopping. 🙂

  • Love a good comfy blazer + graphic tee! Thanks for the tips 🙂

    • Thank you! I love finishing off a look with a blazer! You won’t regret it!

  • cute outfit! I have a pouch stocked with my essentials that I throw into my purse when I’m going out – it’s a lifesaver and keeps me from having to remember all the little things. love the idea of a blazer – I’ve been searching for the perfect one. Found your blog through the Peony Project and it’s lovely to meet you! 🙂
