I took a new job this summer that I was excited about. After over a month working, I realized that working full time in addition to going to grad school full time wasn’t a good option for me. I know people do this all the time, but with work, school, blogging and other commitments, it wasn’t going to be easy.

After struggling through my summer classes for grad school, I knew it was time to cut back. I was working, blogging and working in school that I didn’t make time for my family, friends, boyfriend or other things I loved like reading and working out.

So, I stepped down from management and I’m now an associate employee instead. With the decrease in hours, I have time to focus on school, spend time with friends and enjoy my twenties. This was a difficult decision for me, but I know what I can and cannot handle. Juggling several full-time commitments isn’t feasible for me. And that’s okay. At first, I felt guilty because I couldn’t handle all the work. But I knew that I needed to put myself first and do what is best for me and my future.

With fewer hours, I have found I can better balance work, school, blogging and my free time to do the things I love. Balance is something I lost throughout the summer, but my goal for fall is to stay balanced and to stay happy.

  • I’m loving this top! I’ve found the best way to balance family, work, blogging, and myself is to set specific time periods for accomplishing tasks. I could easily spend all day every day blogging, but clearly that isn’t an option. So I limit my time spent on different tasks and it forces me to be intentional.

I love this idea! Unfortunately, I tend to get caught up in blogging (again, more than I should) and this causes me to lose sight of my research for grad school, or spend time with friends and family, etc. But I love your tip. Thanks so much for your comment ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Fitting everything in is something I struggle with and I’m working on. One thing I’ve found very helpful is the Make Over Your Mornings ecourse. There is a link to in on the sidebar on my blog. It’s a quick 15 minute, 14-day course. It’s really making a difference in how productive I am.

That sounds awesome! Although, I don’t necessarily have a problem with productivity…I think it would still be interesting to learn about. Do you happen to know about costs? Or how often it is offered throughout the year? Thanks so much for your comment ๐Ÿ™‚
