As we transition from August to September, I can’t help but feel bittersweet about this upcoming school year. It will be the first year I’m not at my home (St. Bonaventure University) with my friends and in the community I have loved since my first day in 2012. Three years later, I’m home finishing graduate school and working full time.
Don’t get me wrong, I am excited about what’s going to happen this school year, but it will be different from what I’m used to. I lived away from home for three years, now living home full time is a foreign concept to me. With this in mind, I hope to take on the school year with a positive attitude and work hard to finish out my college career.
Although I’ve been in school online for the past 16 weeks for graduate school, I begin my in-person grad class and my research class this Friday. My goal for this semester are to put my heart and soul into my research and enjoy the process. Yes, this semester will be incredibly difficult, but it will be worth it when I present my defense in March.
Another goal I have is to not take this year for granted. It will be my last year at home with my family before I move out after graduation. I plan to enjoy the time I have with my family and enjoy not being a “real” adult yet.
