My Night Routine For A Better Morning

BB7816

I’m sure you’re thinking, “How does my night routine affect my morning routine?”

It’s simple—the less you do during your night routine, the more stress you’ll have in the morning.

Now, I know there are days where you’ll feel like you’re not going to have time to get all of this done. But it’s possible if you plan in advanced. Here are five ways to update your night routine to have a stress-free morning:

1| You have tomorrow’s meals prepared

I am big about making sure I know what I’ll be having for breakfast, my lunch is packed for work, and I know what I’ll be making for dinner when I come home the next day. It’s one less thing you have to worry about preparing in the morning. Plus, if you plan your meals ahead of time, you’re less likely to spend money going out to lunch, happy hour, or dinner for take out.

2| You have your bag packed by the door

I keep my work bag with my purse all packed and ready to go next to my outfit for the following day. That way, I know where my keys, water bottle, and files are for work the next day, and I’m not rushing around in the morning stressed out about leaving something behind. Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail.

3| Your outfit is picked out

I hate deciding what I should wear on any given day. Also, I find that I am much more indecisive in the morning, and it takes me so much longer to pick out what to wear. It’s simple: have everything laid out and ready to go before you go to bed, and you won’t have a thing to worry about in the morning but getting ready and beginning the day.

4| You cleaned up after dinner

There is nothing worse than waking up to a dirty home that you left a disaster the night before. Don’t leave dishes in the sink or leave the living room a mess. Pick up after yourself as you go along with your night routine, so that you wake up to a clean home in the morning. If your home is messy, you’ll feel stressed out easily before you begin the day.

5| You unplug before bed

I will admit that I have a hard time doing this myself, but it’s something I’m working on every day. I try to stay off my phone for 30 minutes before going to bed. Why? It gives my mind time to relax before going to sleep. I also feel like I have a better night of sleep when I’m not staring at my phone in bed for two hours while I’m on Pinterest. This makes for a more enjoyable morning.

I do all this stuff, too! It’s funny how something simple, like laying out your clothes, can take about 30 seconds at night, but if you don’t do it, it throws off your whole morning!

    • I’m so glad you said that because I feel the same way! When I do all this stuff at night–it only takes 10 minutes. But if I try to do that in the morning, it feels more like 20-30 minutes!

  • Such good advice! Especially meals. I’ve got 3 year old twins, so it is total chaos here all the time. I used to have a routine like this. You’ve given me some inspiration to attempt it again. 🙂

    • Thank you, Rebecca! I’m happy to know this has inspired you; it honestly made me day!

  • Sarah Louise Zerbe

I always love going to bed knowing what I am going to wear the next day, it helps me get reedy in the morning.

    • Exactly! It helps relieve the stress of making sure you know what’s going on in the morning. Thanks, Sarah!

  • This is a great routine! I’m not a morning person so getting everything taken care of the night before really helps!

    • Thank you so much for your comment, Rachel! I am a morning person, but I still love having a little more time! 🙂

  • Having an outfit picked out an advance is so helpful but I often forget to do it!

    • We all forget once in awhile because things come up! But if you can remember and make it a point to set aside time to prep for the next day, your morning will be smooth sailing!

I completely agree with having a good night routine, I just want to introduce your last point – the unplug before bed!

    • Don’t worry, we are all secretly working on this more and more since a ton of our activity is in front of a screen!

  • I definitely pack up everything under the sun before I go to bed–anything to maximize sleep time in the morning! :O

    • Exactly! We all love those few extra minutes in the morning to lay in bed, haha!

  • A good night routine is key for the next morning. I need to start getting better at picking out my outfits the night before. Sometimes I do it and other times I don’t, which takes up a good bit of my time in the morning.

    • Yes! I was the same way before, and I realized that I had such a better morning when I had my outfit, lunch and bag packed and ready to go! So I began doing this every night.

  • I definitely need to start unplugging sooner. That’s definitely my downfall.

I need to get better at the unpluging part but yes having my outfit ready is a huge help.

    • Having everything ready for the next day is what helps me so much! It makes each morning less stressful!

  • Great tips! It really helps me get up in the morning when my meals are already prepped, because it cuts down on so much time. I definitely need to work on unplugging.

    • Unplugging is so important (I’m feel like a hypocrite saying that right now as I’m responding to comments at 10 p.m., haha!) But I always aim for staying off my laptop and phone for 30 minutes before bed.

  • Love these tips!

  • I love this list! I don’t always pick out my clothes for the next day, but I do if I know I am leaving the house. Also, Im terrible at the phone in bed thing. Sometimes I even use my laptop. I’m just a night owl, but I also want to get in bed when my husband does.

Great tips as usual. My night routine looks slightly different as I have lots of kids and work at home 🙂 But I definitely make sure I know what meals we are having, everyone has night time chores and clothes are picked out. I go over my planner and calendar and make sure my list is all set to go in the morning.

  • Great tips! I always have at least an idea of what I’m going to wear the next day before I go to bed but I always make sure my place is clean and organized. Nothing worse than getting ready and stepping over all sorts of stuff on the floor!

  • YES! I do all of these things! And when it comes to the dishes, I can never just have them hanging around because it makes me so anxious but I also thinking keeping on top of them and having a system that works for you, in general makes us all more relaxed and keeps them under control!

  • Chantal Steele

You’re so much more organized than I am. I need to start making sure my meals are planned ahead. 🙂 Thanks for the tips!

  • I definitely unplug before bed, except for reading! I can’t settle down mentally looking at everyone’s social media posts.

  • Yes!!! All of those are huge to making mornings more successful, especially food! Without setting that out or making it ahead of time it doesn’t happen.

  • yess! all of these make my mornings so much easier! thanks for the tips 🙂

  • Washing my face at night helps me relax and prepare for bed. I can tell a huge difference in my sleep when I do versus when I don’t.
