Hello everyone and happy Friday to you all!
Today I want to share a what I ate post today featuring some new Italian food I have tried for the first time. For me, this is stepping out of my comfort zone, so I’m really pound of myself for trying something different.
Breakfast: Okay, so this technically isn’t anything out of the ordinary, but I love cereal and fruit for breakfast in the morning and having access to a kitchen definitely comes in handy while studying abroad. I’m thankful I don’t live in dorms so I can cook as necessary. It save money for those who hope to study abroad on a budget.
I simply cut up some strawberries and bananas and I had cereal with strawberries, raspberries and cherries. The cereal reminded me of Special K from the U.S., at least it was a familiar taste!
Lunch: This has been my go-to meal for lunch, which is a few simple ingredients bought from the grocery store, which are known as Meta’s here in Perugia. I take regular couscous, mixed, leafy greens (spinach, arugula, etc.) salami, cheese, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. It’s very simple and inexpensive to make.
I make a batch of this at the beginning of the week and it’ll last me at least three or four lunches. It’s great to have right before class and I don’t need to think about what to have before attending a three-hour class.
Dinner: Another new meal I have tried while out in Italy is seafood risotto, or seafood anything in general! Needless to say I have fallen in love with a new meal. For those wondering what seafood was included, I had clams, mussels (my absolute favorite) crayfish, and squid. It was all delicious and I recommend it to anyone who loves seafood.
I recommend stepping out of your comfort zone on food, especially if you’re out of the country because food is apart of the culture and you’ll learn more about the lifestyle if you order traditional meals native people eat daily.
I hope you all enjoyed today’s post where I shared what I ate with you all. What food have you tried that was stepping out of your comfort zone? Tweet me @BlissBrunette to let me know what you think.
A few of you have requested to see some pictures from my travels to Florence, Siena, LaVerna and Cortona, so be prepared for some pictures on Monday. Enjoy your weekend and I will talk to you all Monday!
