Health Benefits of Yoga

Good Morning, Everyone! Today I wanted to update you all on a fitness post because I think it’s an activity that more people should take into consideration for their workout routine. As you can all tell from the title, I am going to talk about some of the benefits of yoga.

Now, I know some of you might seem intimidated by the idea of contorting your body into awkward and potentially painful positions, but just hear me out for a minute. And, have I ever steered you wrong before? (Hopefully, you all agreed that I haven’t!)

Yoga is a practice that takes patience, concentration and mindfulness. It’s difficult to keep your mind calm and at ease as you cripple in pain at the thought of moving your body the way an instructor would. But, there are numerous health benefits that might change your outlook on practicing yoga, and I think that you all might change your mind about yoga by the end of this post, which is my ultimate goal.

1. Positive Outlook:

Yoga has been proven to stimulate a brain chemical (GABA) that helps with your overall attitude and outlook. People found with low levels of the brain chemical often are linked with variations of depression. So, more yoga means more happiness in your everyday life. Who would have thought that those position could help in your mental health?

2. Less Body Aches:

Specifically, back and shoulder aches. Most adults will suffer from mild to severe back aches throughout their lifetime. However, yoga strengthens back muscles and improves your overall posture, putting these stubborn body aches to rest. Those who have practiced yoga have reduced or eliminated soreness in the back and shoulders.

3. Better Sleep:

Suffering from insomnia? Yoga might be a simple cure! Because yoga is a calm and relaxing way for people to unwind, studies have shown a link in a better and deeper sleep after practice yoga. Try a 45-minute session of simple and basic poses before going to bed; it’ll be easier to sleep if you’re already in a calm state beforehand.

4. Confidence Boost:

Everyone could use a little confidence boost, and yoga might be the answer to give your body a little extra love. Yoga is a practice that tunes into how your body feels throughout each position; the key is to feel what your limit is, and when you can go beyond that limit. Through yoga, you develop a connection with your body and that allows you to appreciate all that you body can do.

5. Head-to-Toe Toning:

Weight resistance is a great way to sculpt muscles, but yoga takes the cake for strength-training workouts. You’re twisting and lifting every pound of your body to move into certain positions that work your muscles in more ways that any amount of weight could do. Not to mention, yoga works EVERY muscle in your body, not just one specific muscle depending on the workout when you lift.

6. Less Stress:

People who practice yoga use it as an escape from the daily stresses of life. Those who practice yoga three days a week find that they are more apt to handle stressful situation at home or work because of the breathing techniques they use during yoga. So, keep track of those breaths, girl! You might find that it’ll benefit your overall stress levels.

I hope you all enjoyed today’s post on health and fitness. I love what yoga can do for your body. Not only is it a challenge, but it also shows how appreciative you should be of your body. And, there are various health benefits from yoga, so maybe you should try, “hitting the mat” at your local gym this week. All I ask is that you try for at least three weeks before calling it quits. Who knows, you might find out that you enjoy it!

As always, enjoy the rest of the day, and I will talk to you all soon!
