Get the Look: Diane Kruger & Fashion Investments

Diane Kruger Inspiration

Autumn is overall a beautiful season; leaves changing, wonderful scents surround you and fashion evolves to unique, layered-creations.

My favorite aspect of fall is wearing layered outfits. I think that personality is shown through layered fashion. Also, You have an idea of the combinations of styles that people adore and how they want to mix those styles together.

I want to share with you how to achieve a basic, layered outfit for fall and how to achieve the look without breaking your bank account. There are a few items I can’t live without during the season: riding boots, scarves, thick sweaters, simple t-shirts and boot socks. These items will help you put together many layered looks throughout the season but you don’t have to spend your life savings for a few key items.

For the outfit above, I wanted to use Diane Kruger as my fall inspiration. The image of (courtesy of Glamourmagazine.co.uk) illustrates a perfect example of a layered look. And, The first look I created looks similar to the one that Kruger is wearing here.

All you need to achieve the fall layered look is to choose pieces that will compliment each other. If you’re going to wear a scarf that has bright colors, wear a neutral-colored sweater. Not only will the scarf act as your statement piece, but also, you won’t have an outfit that is overwhelming.

Another tip is to invest in a nice pair of riding boots. Quality trumps quantity regarding a decent pair of boots. I have worn the same boots for fours years and I don’t regret dropping $100 to buy them. At least you’ll have boots to last for years to come.

A second item you want to invest in are jeans. Finding quality jeans is important because you want to make sure that you’re buying jeans that will compliment your body and last for more than a year. I’m not suggesting spending $300 dollars for designer denim, but don’t feel guilty if you spend $75-$95 dollars on jeans if you know they fit well and make you feel good when you wear them.

Along the lines of fashion investments, make sure you don’t invest your money into pieces that you don’t need to invest in. For example, t-shirts and boot socks are two items that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on. Even if the socks are made with the best wool material, spending $30 on a pair of socks is ridiculous. Shop at the clearance rack when buying those specific items.

Knit sweaters are the item that I feel can go either way when it comes to investing your money. If you know you’re going to purchase a quality, knit sweater for $90, buy it. But, if you find a sweater that you fell in love with and it’s on sale for $20, that’s fine, too. It all depends on your budget and what you think will be a good investment for your wardrobe.

Layering is a concept that signifies to fashion-lovers that autumn is here. When done properly, anyone can layer pieces together without over-spending their money. If you can work with a budget and take the time to shop around for items, layering will become your favorite aspect of fall, too.
