“Detox Your Life” Weekend

Happy Monday, everyone. Today I wanted to write a post about detoxing your life. This is something that I do once a week and most of my friends have been asking me how I accomplish it. First disclaimer: this has nothing to do with drugs. I know people have the misconception about detox and how it refers to drug addiction. This is different, I promise.

Detox, in my perspective, refers to cleansing your surroundings and yourself to create a positive environment. This will reduce stress and will make you feel good for the week ahead (It’s the reason I’m so chipper in the morning, even on a Monday). I am going to share some simple tips on how to have a “Detox Weekend” and how it will benefit you every week.

MeditateMeditation

Surprisingly, this is an underrated activity that reduces stress. When people think of meditation, they picture incense burning and weird noises. It doesn’t have to be that way. Meditation is perfect when you need a moment in the day to stop, relax and breathe to collect yourself. I recommend meditating for 5-8 minutes around 2 p.m., so you can continue your day with a clear mind.

Sleep

As a college student, late nights are a staple piece when describing a weekend. However, it’s important to take a break from late nights to give your body time to relax and unwind. Always aim for 8 hours a night. That doesn’t mean sleep from 4 a.m. to noon. Try to sleep from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., and you will have a more productive day.

Walking/Working Out

Start you workout early in the day (before or after breakfast, whatever you prefer). This way, you will have an activity accomplished at the start of the day, so you’ll have motivation to continue your productivity throughout the day. And, working out releases endorphins, which will make you happy. So if you’ve had a hard week, you will have a better mood.

green-teaGreen Tea

This green magic in a cup works perfectly if you’re trying to detox your body over the weekend. Green tea has many benefits, however it’s best known for speeding up your metabolism and naturally cleansing your body. So, instead of coffee, switch to green tea for the weekend.

Healthy Food

Weekends are for consuming extra calories and ordering out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My recommendation, take a break from unhealthy food and eat healthy this weekend. You’ll be surprised how great you feel during the day. Aim for 4 to 5 small meals and eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and protein for a balanced diet.

Plan Ahead

Early in the morning, make a list of everything you want to accomplish for the day and stick to the list! Plan so that you accomplish more in the morning than the afternoon because your productivity is naturally high in the morning. Once you apply this method to your daily life, plan out your week in advanced so you know what to expect. No surprises, no stress.

Organize/Cleanindex

Take an hour to clean and organize your space every weekend. Dust your room, vacuum and sweep the floors, organize your desk and do your laundry. You’ll be happy that you won’t have to do this during the week because it will already be done. Again, no surprises, no stress.

Productivity

Stay motivated throughout the weekend. Set mini goals for Saturday and Sunday that you want to accomplish. It becomes a challenge for you and you realize how easy it is to live a detoxed life. Your space will be clean, your body will be healthy and you will naturally feel good about yourself for your accomplishments.

Pamper

On the weekend, I like to give myself time for an extended beauty-regime that will cleanse my skin, nails, hair, etc. On the weekend, I will cut/file my nails and prepare a cuticle treatment, apply a natural face mask at night, shave and apply a body butter to my legs, arms and feet, and apply a hair treatment if necessary. It feels good to treat your body after a long week.

All of these tips are simple ways to have a detox weekend. After a few weeks, you will see a high difference in your mood, energy and overall productivity throughout the week. It sounds simple but it takes time to adapt this into your weekly schedule, so if you don’t do this once a week, aim for once a month and continue to add it as often as necessary. I hope you all enjoyed today’s post and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day. And as always, I will talk to you all soon. Bye!
