8 Tips to Get in the Holiday Spirit

It’s the season of gift giving, holiday parties, delicious food, and spending time with friends and family. Simply thinking about those things alone can put me in the holiday spirit. However, it can be difficult to get into the holiday spirit when you’re stressed about preparing your home for holiday guests, shopping during the busiest time of the year, and finding the perfect cocktail to serve to your friends and family. So, I’ve put together eight ways to get in the holiday spirit that won’t take a ton of time or energy.

1| Go to a Holiday Vendor Show

Every year, my mom and I go to Christmas in the Country. The space is filled with local vendors, artists, and sweet treats. It’s basically like walking into a winter wonderland because most vendors have a ton of homemade, holiday art, decor, food gifts, and more. It’s the easiest way to get in the holiday spirit just by walking around to see what vendors have set up for the year. Plus, you may get some of your holiday shopping done early, and also supporting local artists in your community.

2| Watch Hallmark/Your Favorite Christmas Movie

It’s impossible to watch Elf, Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and NOT get in the holiday spirit. On Sundays, I’ll have cheesy, romantic Hallmark Christmas movies playing all day long while meal prepping for the week and cleaning. It’s an easy way to feel all the Christmas feels while you’re doing your everyday tasks.

3| Treat Yourself to Festive Drinks

If you’re not into spending $5 on a small, festive drink—you can always hit up your local cafe down the road to get your favorite holiday drink, too. Call me basic, but I always feel a little holiday bliss when I’m drinking a Chestnut Praline Latte, or a Salted Caramel Mocha. It’s the little things in life, y’all. Or, you can even make homemade hot chocolate at home while you’re watching those Hallmark movies. It doesn’t take much to enjoy the simple things during this time of year.

4| Deck the Halls

Yes, literally deck your halls. Get out your tree, hang your wreathes, put the lights on your roof, and bust out the Christmas vibes all over your home. We recently moved into our home, and I have been loving decorating for the holidays so far. If putting up your Christmas tree doesn’t make you want to burst out singing like the kids in A Charlie Brown Christmas (see below) then I don’t know what will bring that holiday spirit. Which brings me to number 5…

5| Christmas Music on Repeat

To be honest, I’ve been listening to Christmas music for awhile now (no shame); and I can’t think of a better way to get in the holiday spirit. It’s not Christmas if you aren’t spending every waking minute blasting Michael Buble’s Christmas album. It’s an oldie, but a goodie for sure. Create a holiday music playlist on Spotify, and jam to that playlist until December 26th because it’s a free, easy way to bring your holiday spirit from zero to 60.

6| Pay it Forward

What better way to lift your holiday spirits that to lift someone else’s spirits in the process? I don’t know about you, but paying it forward to a stranger is something I wish everyone would do more of during the holidays. With this time of year being such a beautiful time, it can be easy to forget that not everyone has family to spend with, or they may be going through something you know nothing about. So, buy someone’s coffee in line, or leave a large tip for a waiter who may be having a bad day. Giving to others will bring so much bliss to you. I promise.

7| Drive Around At Night

Make hot cocoa to go, and spend the evening driving around looking at the festive lights throughout your neighborhood. There are a few houses in my area where some families DECK OUT their yard for the holidays, and I bug Josh to take me on a drive to see them every season. Drive around with your hot cocoa, christmas music and enjoy the lights around you. Plus this is a great free date idea for your and your significant other!

8| Bake Up A Storm

When I think about the holidays, I think about baking in mass quantities. Now that we live in a house, I can’t wait to use my island and kitchen for a full-on, baking frenzy. Don’t forget to bake extra for your neighbors! What better way to get in the holiday spirit than to share desserts with others! You’ll bring some bliss to them, which will ultimately bring back bliss to you. P.S. Here is a great round up on cookies to bake this season.

I hope these simple suggestions can help get you in the holiday spirit! What do YOU do to bring a little Christmas joy to your home during the holidays? Make sure to leave a comment below and share your tips!
