5 Tips to Simplify Your Morning Routine

I feel like winter slows us down sometimes because there’s a lack of motivation with less sunlight (TBH Seasonal Depression is very real) and we’re constantly searching to make our lives a little more simple and easy just after the new year. So, today I’m sharing five tips to help simplify your morning routine. If you’re looking to add a little bliss back to your mornings (even when it’s 8 degrees outside) keep on reading!

1| No snoozing.

I’ve never been one to hit snooze three or four times in the morning before actually getting out of bed, but I know there are tons of people who struggle with this. Not everyone is a morning person, so you may simply not like getting up in the morning. Make sure your phone is out of reach, so that it’s not physically possible for you to press snooze. You physically will have to get up and shut off your alarm. By the time you’re standing up, you’ll already be slightly awake to carry on with your morning.

2| Put. The. Phone. Down.

Girl, don’t pretend like you’re the only one who is running late all the time because you “don’t have enough time in the morning” when the real reason is because you got lost scrolling through four days worth of Instagram content (no thanks to the horrible algorithm) after pressing snooze four times. You do have time in the morning, you’re just not spending time the RIGHT way in the morning. Refrain from picking up your phone. It’s one habit that will seriously save you so much time every day.

3| Prep the night before.

You might not want to hear this, but you’re probably stressed in the morning because you don’t prep anything the night before. To simplify your morning routine, you need to eliminate any unnecessary things that can easily be done the previous night like setting out your outfit for the day, having your lunch prepped in the fridge, and packing your work bag and leaving it by the door. The less you have to do in the morning, the better and less stressful your morning will be.

4| Streamline your beauty routine.

My beauty routine in the morning has become a science. I wake up at 6:50 and I’m able to get the following done in 30 minutes: brush my teeth, moisturize my skin, do my makeup, curl my hair, get dressed, make the bed, and get my breakfast shake made. I removed any unnecessary steps from my beauty routine to save time. Simplifying your makeup and beauty routine is such a great way to save time in the morning. Also, don’t play any music or videos while getting ready. I’ve found that I would waste an extra 10-15 minutes because I would watch YouTube while doing my hair. It only slows you down in the morning. Plus, now you can use that time to enjoy a cup of coffee with your breakfast before work!

5| Keep your life organized.

The saying definitely holds true in my experience: “when your home and space is cluttered, your mind is cluttered.” Work on simplifying your life and home with decluttering and organizing your space around you. It’s hard to get ready in a bathroom where you don’t have enough space. First, eliminate instead of organize. Then, once you have eliminated everything you don’t need, you can focus on organizing what you do have in your home. Consider creating a “command center” near your entryway when you can keep your work bag, mail, keys, phone, etc. so nothing is misplaced. You won’t worry about searching for your keys and wallet if you know where everything is! It’ll save you even more time in the morning.

So, how can you work on simplifying your morning routine? What are some tips you want to incorporate into your routine? Or, what are some tips you have that I may have left out? Make sure to share everything in the comments below!

  • All of these are such good ideas! I’m not a morning person at all but I have found a way to carve out time for coffee and my devotional in the mornings. After that, it’s rushing but at least I feel calmer and happier with that as my start. I definitely need to work on implementing these tips into my life, too!

    • I’m glad you give yourself a little bit of time in the morning to do something you enjoy! That is a great way to begin the day. I would encourage you to set your alarm 30 minutes earlier than normal, and you’ll be surprised how much time you’ll have so you aren’t rushing!

  • I’m terrible about hitting the snooze button — this morning I hit it too much I got up 45 minutes late. BAD!! LOL!

    • I can say that not hitting snooze saves me so much time in the morning and you’ll be surprised how much time it’ll save you, too! ☺️

  • Haha I’m the worst at putting my phone down. It’s like my newspaper LOL! I definitely need to kick it – I move so much quicker when I do.

    • I completely understand. What I tell people to do is to get up without looking at your phone, and get ready as normal. Once you’re ready, ate food (and had coffee) you can spend 10-15 minutes left for scrolling on social!

These are such great tips! In the winter, I’m bad about hitting the snooze button over and over, haha. Something I should definitely work on!

    • The season can definitely make it difficult! But once you make it a habit, it’s easier no matter what season it is!

    • You will be amazed at how much time you save when you don’t spend time on your phone in the morning. Try to do your routine first, and then you can use the leftover time to be on Instagram ☺️

Ah I’m a snoozer AND i go through my phone before I get out of bed. I really need to stop grabbing it first thing. I feel like I would get up and out sooo much faster! haha!

    • Yes! And I promise that once you make it habit, it will make your mornings a breeze! You will honestly enjoy getting up in the morning ☺️

  • You’ve never hit snooze? That’s amazing to me haha I do it in my sleep! So, I have to move my phone. But these are great tips. If I don’t prepare for the morning then it’s always chaos when I wake up.

    • I don’t and never really have! I also am a morning person, so that might have something to do with it. But I think that once it becomes a habit, you’ll never have a problem with waking up in the morning!

    • I’m so glad you found this post helpful! I know many people struggle to get out of bed. So set your alarm on the other side of the room so you have to wake up and get out of bed to turn it off! Then head straight to the bathroom to get ready!

I am NOT a morning personal at all. I hate mornings. I really liked these tips and believe they could actually change my approach on mornings. Especially the one about prepping the night before! That’s huge! I am also the snooze queen, so I definitely need to work on that one too. Basically all of them haha. But I’m excited to have this to reference back to as I aim to become more of a morning person!

    • It’s amazing how much time you save in the morning when your outfit is ready to go, your lunch is prepped, and all of your things are at the door! I swear by this tip!

  • These are all great tips!! In the morning I have no time to be scrolling through social media, which is a good thing. I’ve actually gotten better with not pressing snooze over the last few years because I have a fear I will oversleep, etc. Not fun!

    • I hear ya there! That’s great that you don’t snooze and that you don’t even allow yourself time to scroll on social in the morning! I’m sure that gets you going right when you wake up!

  • Thankfully I don’t have to rush anymore in the mornings because most days I work from home. However, when I was teaching I was always, always “running late” (thankfully I built in that running late time into my routine so I was never actually late for work) because I was scrolling through social media. Totally wasted time that never actually started my day off to a positive start!

    • Yes! That’s a good point! When you hit snooze or scroll on social media, it honestly gets you off on a bad start because you feel rushed, overwhelmed, and stressed! So being prepared and getting up immediately helps a ton!

  • All of these tips are so essential. Especially putting the phone down. I’ve been trying to make the habit of letting my phone charge in a different room when I go to bed at night. Keeps me from wanting wake up in the middle of the night and getting stuck into my phone. It also keeps me from losing so many minutes of my morning to the phone as well. Great post!

    • Thanks, Girl! I couldn’t agree with you more! I don’t look at my phone until after breakfast so that I know everything is done and I won’t be wasting time looking at my phone before work!

  • I DEFINITELT need to stop hitting snooze and just GET UP. It’s sonhard for some reason and I used to LOVE mornings. I don’t know what happened!

    • I encourage you to set your alarm 30 minutes before you’re supposed to wake up and get into a routine around that new time! That way, you won’t feel rushed in the mornings and you can develop healthy morning routines to have a better start to the day!

  • I 100% agree to all these tips. I do these, and once I started it really helped my morning flow a lot smoother and kept me from being late for things!

    • Yes! Because being late and stressing out first thing in the morning is not fun! So I never snooze my alarm or scroll on social media so I can begin the day on a positive note!

  • Taylor Smith

These are awesome. I need to be better at a morning routine.

  • I definitely need to work on not snoozing and not reaching for my phone – but something that I have been doing lately that’s been huge is prepping the night before. Last night we meal prepped, I made muffins for the whole week and I picked out what I was going to wear. It made my morning go by so much faster!

    • Yes, getting stuff done the night before will save you SO MUCH TIME in the morning! But I also make sure not to scroll on social until my entire morning routine is done!
