5 Things to be Happy About: January 2018

Cheers to 2018, friends! I hope you all had an amazing holiday season.

The last few weeks have been a complete whirlwind, and I don’t know how it’s already a full week into the new year. I always kick-off a new year with a ton of energy and motivation even though I’m also recovering from the holidays. So, I’m sharing five things that I’m looking forward to for the rest of the month.

1| Clean Slate

January is an underrated month because I love a fresh start at the beginning of a new year. You can move past any of the negative times from the previous year, and focus all your time and energy on the new year ahead. There’s something refreshing about the post-holiday season in my opinion. Are you excited about a clean slate for the new year? Or, are you still riding the high from 2017?

2| Saving Money

Y’all, the holidays are expensive. January is not only a time where I personally recuperate, but my wallet also takes some time to recuperate. This is when I’ll plan a spending freeze, and cut out some unnecessary purchases for the month to get me back in a better space financially for the new year. I’m looking to cut back my spending for the next few months to meet my savings goal for 2018.

3| Motivation to the Max

Am I the only person who feels so motivated and ready to get to work in the new year? Maybe it’s because my goals are new and exciting. I feel like I plan the most content for the blog in January and feel very creative after the holiday season. It’s a time where I use my motivation to my advantage because I know there will be times where a blogging rut will hit.

4| Relax + Hygge

I’m sure thinking…how are you motivated, but also taking time to relax? I’m always motivated in January, so I have more time to relax and practice hygge at the end of a productive day. Hygge is something that I picked up on last year, and it has made winter much more enjoyable. Not too sure where to begin with self-care and time to relax? Try a self-care challenge for some inspiration. My favorite way to unwind after a long day is to go for a walk, or to watch YouTube while cleaning and cooking.

5| Healthy Habits

Along with motivation, I’m all about positive and healthy habits Over the last few years, I’ve found that January is when I ride strong with healthy living. I get enough sleep, drink tons of water, eat well, exercise regularly, and take care of my mental health consistently. Now, I need to continue those habits into the over 11 months of the year, too.

  • These are a great list of things! I love the saving money part. Even though I’m having my first baby this month, I think that will really force my husband and I too look at money a lot differently.

    • Exactly! There’s always room for a little gratitude! It’s somehing I’ve always tried to focus on because it’s give a great perspective ☺️

  • I need to practise Hygge more too (as far as you can actually practise it 😬). I read the book last October and I loved it. It almost made me love winter!

    • Winter is definitely a beautiful season, but it’s also a cold season! I need all the hygge I can get with the 10-degree weather in PA!

    • I agree! I’m going into a spending freeze where I only buy essentials for a month to see how much extra money I save!

  • YEP! I’m ALL about the clean slate and all the healthy habits and feeling so encouraged and motivated. This year, I’m determined to make those feelings last ALL year long!

    • Exactly! I’m right there with you! It’s easy to initially feel motivated and inspired. But the goal is to keep that motivation and inspiration lasting for 11 more months, but WE GOT THIS!

  • Another thing I’m also happy about in January is seeing my blog stats go back up! Numbers were not good in December, like many bloggers, but things are already improving for January.

  • I am SO ready for a little relaxing this January. It’s my birthday month and I usually like to plan a big party but this year I want to cuddle up with a few girlfriends and drink wine in my pajamas at home,hehe. Saving money is also important after the expensive holiday season.

    • Happy birthday month to you! I don’t blame you at all for those birthday plans! My birthday is in April, and I think I’ll be doing the same thing ❤️ Wine nights in with friends are always my favorite nights.

  • I’m always super motivated in January myself. It’s such a great time to get things done.

    • Exactly! I feel like I crush so many goals in the first month of the year, but I hope that will motivate me to keep working hard every other month afterwards!

    This is a great article! I am definitely looking forward to starting over in January. But I definitely think that I do get more motivated this month, my hope is that I can keep up my motivation for the rest of the year.

    • Motivation is huge! Pinterest and reading have actually sparked a ton of inspiration and motivation for me, so maybe you can try that to keep that going for the rest of the year!
