4 Ways to Bring Bliss During the Holidays

During a time of craziness, parties, shopping for gifts, spending time with family and friends, and a million reasons to feel thankful; it’s important to remember that not everyone associates happiness during the holiday season. For some, the holidays can be a very difficult time, and can bring a lot of sadness. So today I’m sharing five ways to bring bliss to other people during the holidays wether they are a close friend, or a complete stranger.

1| Pay it forward

Pay for the person’s coffee behind you in line at Starbucks. Put a coin in a meter that’s about to expire. Offer to shovel your elderly neighbor’s driveway, or pick up groceries for them. We all know money is tight during this time of year, but you don’t always have to give a large amount of money to pay it forward. No one ever become poor by giving. Always remember there is a way to pay it forward to someone in your life whether they’re a coworker or a stranger.

2| Give your time

Read to children who are in the hospital during the holiday season. Visit with the elderly at a local nursing home to volunteer and play games with them. Bag food at a food bank or serve meals at a homeless shelter. Walk puppies at a local shelter. There are a million ways to donate and volunteer your time during the holidays. Find something that you’re passionate about, and give your time during the holidays.

3| Donate

Donate to your favorite charity. Buy cards to send to soldiers who are away from home, send cards to older men and women in nursing homes who may never have family come in, buy toys to give to Toys for Tots, or adopt a family during the holidays. It can be difficult to donate your time during this busy time of year, but if you can spar $15-$50 to give back in some way—do it. I promise you won’t regret it.

4| Random acts of kindness

Declutter your closet, and donate old clothes you no longer need. Donate books to local hospitals or schools that could use them. Leave money in a vending machine for the next person who needs a drink. Compliment a stranger. Run an errand for a family member. Babysit your friend’s child, so they can enjoy a night out. Bake something for your office to share. Give up your seat for someone else on the bus. You’d be surprised how much these small gestures can make someone’s day. There’s always a way to give and spread a little kindness.
