3 Beauty Products You Should Always Invest In

There are a ton of beauty blog posts where bloggers share inexpensive alternatives for high-end brands. But what products should you worry about investing in? Although your budget might be tight, it’s worth your money to splurge instead of save.

1| Daytime and nighttime Moisturizer

I am a firm believer that if you invest in your skincare products, you will see positive results. There are so many amazing brands for skincare, so it’s important to consider your budget, skin type and what brands your prefer. Once you have answered those questions, read up on reviews of moisturizers that you are interested in, visit your local Sephora or Ulta for a sample or two. Research as much as possible before you commit to a moisturizer. Once you make the investment, you won’t regret it.

2| Foundation that matches your skin tone

There’s nothing worse than feeling disappointed from using a cheap foundation of BB Cream that not only is the wrong color for your complexion, but it also leaves your skin feel too oily or too dry. Again, research is necessary. Take your budget, skin type and brands you prefer into consideration prior to testing products and investing in them. The more you learn, the better chance you will love the product even more. Again, you won’t regret investing in skin products because this will leave your skin feeling flawless, and you’ll feel confident all day long.

3| A lipstick you feel confident in

Okay, so I know this might seem like a necessary product that you should invest in, but I disagree. Personally, there’s nothing better than being able to find one shade you feel confident in that you invested a little more money in. Why? You’ll have a go-to color to wear every day, and you’ll be able to have a signature lip color that makes you feel good to wear. However, this can take a little longer to find simply because it all depends on what shade you’re looking for. When you decide the color, invest a little extra money, and you’ll have a great way to complete your makeup every day.

  • AMEN! These are all the most important items! I absolutely love the YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks and have one that is my daily lipstick and a fuchsia one for play!

    • I have YSL lipglosses, but have never tried their lipsticks. I’ll be sure to check them out next time I’m out shopping. Thank you so much for your comment, Rachel! Happy to know you enjoyed reading šŸ™‚

  • Nude lips are ALWAYS my go to! I love Milani’s Matte Naked lipstick. It has the same consistency and is as long wearing like MAC lipsticks. Except its more hydrating and only $5 šŸ™‚

    • Me, too! I am personally a lover of the nude lipsticks because I feel like they are better for my skin tone! Thanks so much for your comment! I’ll need to check out the Milani lipsticks.

  • great tips! totally agree! I also recommend an antioxidant rich moisturizer just because it can help repair skin so much šŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Tianna! Yes! A moisturizer that can help your skin altogether is a must in my book!

  • Neely

I could not agree more with all 3!

  • Definitely agree with all of these, but especially #3! A good lipstick color can change a person’s entire face and demeanor. Love it!

    • Yes! I’m so glad you knew where I was coming from because I worried that people would think it was a trivial and unimportant product!

  • Bree

I completely agree, particularly with #1. I live in Australia and the weather and sun are so harsh on skin it is so important for me to have a good day cream with SPF and a repairing night cream for the evening.

    • I couldn’t agree more regardless of where you live because we need to make sure we are hydrating our skin and treating it properly every single day! Thank you for your comment!

    Any suggestions on night moisturizers?

    • Definitely would recommend the day-wear nighttime moisturizer from Estee Lauder! I’ve been using it for so many years and I love it!

  • I am not really a fan of makeup but I am definitely a lipstick girl. Lately, I splurged on 6 lipsticks, all at once! HAHA, I did not regret it even though my boyfriend looked at me like I was crazy.

so glad you mentioned foundation that matches your skin tone! Hallelujah!! I admit I’ve been guilty of wearing a foundation that was a bit too dark for my skin tone (it was my summer foundation), but I try to avoid it as much as possible.

    • I feel like people can overlook their foundation/BB Cream because they’re only going for a cheap, accessible brand. But if it doesn’t match your skin tone and skin type, it’s not good for you to use!

  • Moisturizer, lip gloss and mascara are my go tos!

    Alix | http://www.apintsizedlife.com

    • Thanks so much for your comment. Moisturizer definitely fits in with my skincare products category. I feel like we should always invest in that!

  • Candy Kage

I would add a great mascara, perfect list.

    • Yes! Mascara is a product I feel like can be overlooked, but I definitely agree with you. There’s nothing better than a quality mascara.

  • I’m not big on lipstick but definitely lip gloss! šŸ˜‰ The moisturizer is great and I would add a good cleanser to the list. I have some sensitivities and a good, clean ingredient cleanser is a MUST for my skin.

    • Some people have their preferences whether it’s lipstick or lipgloss. I think a good cleanser should definitely be added to this list. My personal favorite is from Cetaphil! Thanks for your comment, Katie!

  • I agree with all of this, especially with the foundation! I bought my first high end foundation last summer and couldn’t BELIEVE the difference! Of course, there are some great drugstore options, but going high end was life changing!

    • Which brand was it–if you don’t mind me asking!? I’m all about trying new brands, especially if they’re high end and worth the splurge! Thanks for your comment, Chelsie!

  • My must-have beauty products are eye cream and a good exfoliating product. I spent years and years covering my skin, but thankfully am foundation-free now!

    • Exfoliating has become a big part of my skincare and beauty routine altogether, so I know where you’re coming from. Thank you for your comment, Krista!

  • I’m ALLLLL about a great lippy! Also, great mascara. Drugstore mascaras usually do it for me, but lately I’ve been *obsessed* with the IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara – best one I’ve found to date.

    Coming Up Roses

    • I have never tried that mascara before, but it’s going on my list of products to buy ASAP! And I couldn’t agree with you more about having a good, go-to lipstick!

  • Glamorously, Nicole

A good eyeshadow palette is also a must-have. I think spending the money on one good one that you know you will use is great

    • That’s exactly how I feel about my Naked 3 palette. It’s the only palette I have because it contains all the shades I would use on a day-to-day basis, and I can use it all year long. Thank you so much for your comment, Nicole!

  • I think a good bronzer or blush is a must!

    • I should have added that to my list because the bronzer I use is one of my holy grail products I can’t live without!

  • A good quality foundation is so essential! A nice facial cleanser is also really important to me.

    Nellwyn | http://www.thecardinalpress.com

    • I should also add cleanser to the list because I am in love with the Cetaphil daily skin cleanser and have been using it for so many years.

  • Annie Marie

Very true! There are some things you can do on the cheap but foundation and moisturizers are not one of them!

    • Exactly! I’m all about saving your money whenever necessary, but there are a few things that you should invest in if you want to take care of your skin–especially referring to the day and night moisturizer!

  • Brittany Ashmore

Yes girl I have to TOTALLY agree!!!!! I love all 3 also! I can’t go a day without my TULA moisturizer!

    • I feel like once you find the products you absolutely love, it seems impossible to live without them! I definitely feel that way about my Estee Lauder moisturizer as well!

  • Agree!! I would add a primer! Game changer for the days you need everything to stick – and the good ones work so well!

    • Yes! Primers are so important–especially if you have skin that needs the primer for your makeup to last during the day.

  • adriana nudo

I LOVE this and couldn’t agree more! These are products you definitely shouldn’t skimp out on! Great post!

    • Thank you so much! I’m so happy to know you’ve enjoyed reading it!

  • Yes to all of these! Finding a good foundation was my saving grace!
