10 Things to be Happy About: June Edition

I’m almost certain that I missed out on my May Edition of “10 Things to be Happy About” due to my move, new job, etc. I’m happy to pick back up on this post I write each month because it’s a way to recognize all the little things I’m looking forward to for the upcoming month.

Here are a few of the wonderful things to look forward to now that it’s June:

Summer Days:

There’s nothing better than getting out of work, and knowing you have four or more hours of daylight left before it gets dark. You have more time to get errands done, and spend time outside in the warm weather. Also, I generally feel happier when it’s sunny outside, so I’m more productive and positive during the summer months.

There’s nothing better than picnic food in summer. From pasta salads to cooking burgers and hot dogs on the grill with family and friends. I have some of my fondest memories with cookouts growing up, so I associate June with this month of the year. I can’t wait to have easy meals on weekends from cooking on the grill.

Summer Solstice:

The first day of summer is June 20th and it’s a day I look forward to every single year because summer is one of my favorite seasons. There’s something about this time of year that brings me back to my childhood from swimming out in my pool and having freeze pops in the park. I always feel nostalgic in June, but I’m thankful to have positive memories associated with this month.

More time to relax:

There is something about the beginning of summer that makes me feel relaxed. I think it has to do with growing up as a student that June means schools is out for summer, so there are two and a half months to relax and have some time off. Now that I work full time, I’m hoping I can still give myself a little time to relax before things get busy at the end of July and August.

Summer fashion:

I am a simple person when it comes to fashion in summer. What I love most about summer is that you can have a few staples in your closet, and it will work for the three months of summer. For me, I keep it basic with some flowy dresses, casual tops and denim shorts. I also love a few staple sandals that I live in for the summer months. Life is simple when it comes to clothing in June.

Call me basic, but I live for fires. I truly believe I am a child at heart because I love sitting around a fire with friends, talking and spending time with people I care about. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to do this since my friends and I live in different places, but I’m hoping I can enjoy a bonfire or two with some marshmallows this month.

Simplifying my routine:

I wear significantly less makeup and try to simplify my beauty routine as much as possible. I keep it simple with concealer, mascara, brow filler, and a little bronzer. Sometimes, I’ll break out my eyeliner if I’m feeling fancy. I love this because I feel confident with wearing less makeup during this time because I naturally tan easily in summer, which leads me to wear less makeup.

More motivation:

I am the most productive in summer. As much as I love relaxing during these months, I love having days where I’m productive and can get things done for my blog or for work. There is nothing better than going to bed at the end of the day knowing you accomplished everything on your to-do list. I’m excited for productive days and working on new projects!

Outdoor workouts:

I’m not a huge fan of sitting around a warm gym every day. Let’s be honest, I’m not a huge fan of gyms in general. If I had to choose, I would rather work out at home rather than in a gym unless it’s a spin class. When June rolls around, I take my workouts outside by hiking, running, jumping rope, etc. I enjoy working out so much more when I work out outside.
